Smart Card C-1 Revisited

Post by Malibu » Mon Mar 20, 2006 2:39 pm

I talked to Respironics this morning and they said the design of the machines that use the smart card can lead to intermittent C-1s. C-1's mean the card is bad or not inserted correctly. The design is such that the last 1/2 inch of card insertion engages in 2 narrow rubber guides that have a thin groove in them. If the card is even slightly biased up on initial insertion which is easy to do since your standing up usually while doing this, the card may go under the rubber slits and not make contact with the gold contacts inside the machine. He said to back it out a shade over a 1/2 an inch and then reinsert which is what I do. He is probably right since when I put in the card totally straight, it works fine. I guess maybe a design change might be in order however I'm sure it would be cost prohibitive. He said when a card is defective for real it will always display a C code no matter how many times you put it in...makes sense...

Thanks!

Actually the whole line has been redesigned and is currently in it's initial release. Hopefully the made the needed modification.
