Using a Mirage Liberty #61301 combo full face mask

Post by marydye » Sat Jun 16, 2012 12:35 pm

Is anymore using this type of mask and if so what problems are you having? I am having nasal issues with condensation. This is my fourth mask and it is much less cumbersome than the others. The extra piece of tubing that came with it seems unnecessary but we are not sure about that. I took it off last night and just used the six foot tubing as I had been with the other three masks.

Condensation in the nasal pillows of the Liberty?? If so that is probably from the moisture in your own exhaled breath condensing in the pillows. It happens with other nasal pillow masks (I have had it happen).
It is caused from a combination of things...moisturized air coming in from the humidifier, your own breath which contains moisture and ambient room temp which is cool enough to allow condensation to occur.
Either increase room temp...lower humidifier setting or try to figure out some way to insulate the nasal pillows (hard to do because of tiny size).
The short hose from the mask to the long hose...I don't know if it is critical or not. Normally those short hoses add a little more flexibility and that is main reason for their presence. I don't see that not using it would be a problem but I will let someone who has experience with the Liberty say for sure since I don't really know.

I am wondering if a humidifier with climate control is quite useful. I don't believe ours is climate controlled. Ours is a RESPIR-REMSTAR Auto W/A-Flex humidifier/#Ds6H. Maybe a climate controlled one would solve our problem of Rainout in the tubing. Does anyone have any comments or experience on this?

The end of that short hose has a swivel in it making it easier to move around. With my ClimateLine hose the end doesn't fit very well directly on the elbow that attaches to the mask. No reason not to use the short hose.

Heated hose might help.
Check the bottom of your machine...Does it say DS 550 or 560? 560 models are heated hose model machines. Perhaps some adjusting in those settings if that is what you have.

I am using the ResMed Climateline heated hose right now...I prefer LOTS of added moisture...I still get some condensation in my nasal pillows (not a lot but sometimes I get a mist) because I also like a cold bedroom. So some condensation is still possible in the right circumstances.

There are also stand alone heated hoses that will work with any machine. Can't adjust the temperature...either on or off but they do work because I used one with my PR S1 machine since it was not a 60 series machine and just had the regular hose.
