One final software question before I order...

Post by leaveye » Sun Mar 19, 2006 11:35 pm

Any thoughts on the resmed software versus the respironics software? Which one is the most comprehensive? Which is the most user friendly? I'll be placing my order tomorrow and I just want to make sure that I'm getting what is going to work best for me. I'm sure you all know the feeling!

Thanks again,
Levi

Of just the two you're asking about, I prefer the Encore Pro software that the Respironics machines use over ResMed's Autoscan software.

If one of those records the duration of apneac events in any useful fashion, I would give weight to that feature. I have a Goodknight 420E with the Silverlining software; and while the machine and software are excellent, I wish it would record the duration of events (it's usually one tick; two if the event goes on long enough).

The MyEncore software shows in its statistical graphs the time spent in apnea (average and total).

Levi, there are many advantages to the Respironics software. For one it is really the only and most talked about on this forum. You have the user friendly software (free on this site) from Derek that works in conjunction with the main software. The card reader is cheap from 2factors. You have lots of company in its use and lots of help if a problem does arise. Not such a tough decision to make for me. .

The AutoScan software for the Resmed machines is horrible in my opinion, worse than EncorePro, worse than Puritian Bennet Silverlining (I have all 3). The Resmed machines do give you basic AHI data right from the LCD where others don't.

The only data supplied with the Autoscan is Pressure used (hard to read), mask leak and a horrible tic chart on actual events (i.e. you cannot make them out). Note: The Resmed machines don't detect Hypoapnea or snores, so everything is considered or treated as a flow limiation or apnea and so its ability to log those events individually are limited. If you have the Reslink option and software it is my understanding it gives you much more data than the standard software. I would say the reporting software is the weak link on the Resmed machines. I own a Spirit and the software.

In case any of you has decided to buy a Silver Lining Software for PB machines, I have a brand new pack, which I mistakenly ordered twice last month. You can have it at 40% of the price that you order online, plus the applicable shipping charges from Hong Kong to your door (abt 10 USD). You can send private messages to me if interested.
