Heya everyone,
I just re-started using my CPAP machine last night after just over a week from my LapBand surgery. (6.4.12)
When I woke up this morning I had a moderate amount of stomach pain. I didn't get any gurgles or noises but I had the impression that it was trapped air/gas. Once I started moving around, taking my morning meds, vitas & drank my morning shake I (not to be crude but) passed gas a couple times and the pain subsided quite a bit. Of course I can't remember the why's & what happened. Just that it had happened.
I beleive I had a similar problem a while back but it wasn't this painful. (Not enough to make me double over or stay home from work.) But enough that if it didn't go away, I would have stayed home from work.
Does anyone have any experience or advice they can share with me about CPAP's & a LapBand causing problems together?
Thanks in advance,
Matt

Do a search above in the blue banner for the word aerophagia. Sounds like you have air in your stomach (aerophagia) and the lapband surgery has not healed properly yet and one is aggravating the other. Do whatever you have to do, burp, fart.....go for it, its the only way you will get rid of it.

Never had the surgery but I would think it would be difficult at all to think that the Lap band restrictions on the stomach size would accentuate any possible aerophagia symptoms. Stomach is smaller and takes less air into the stomach to cause more discomfort. It's a smaller balloon now and takes less air to inflate it. Will it get better with a bit more time? Unknown really. Something to discuss with your doctor if symptoms persist or becoming hugely unbearable. In the meantime you can try the standard aerophagia reduction methods to see if they help.

I wonder if the hiatus from the machine could have contributed to the problem.

Please post back an keep us updated on your progress. I am on a similar path. I didn't have surgery, but did work with a weight loss clinic. I started at 330, and I have lost 145 so far. I was hoping that this would improve my OSA (obstructive sleep apnea). It did, in fact, I have been declared to have been cured of OSA. However, it turns out that I have another sleep disorder (UARS) hiding behind the OSA, so I still need to use my BiPAP.
When I got down to 275, I started having nasty issues with air in my stomach. This persisted all the way down to about 225 pounds. Like you say, it was pretty uncomfortable at times, and I would toot like crazy for the first 2 hours after I woke up before everything passed through.
I have no idea how this will work with a LAP band. What I can suggest is talk to one of your doctors about this. In my case, all that air passing through my colon dried me out to the point where I got constipated. Before I knew it, I ended up having to see the butt doctor. His suggestion was to dramatically increase the amount of liquids I was drinking and get more fiber. I don't know if that is a good idea with the LAP band, so maybe run it past a doctor.
Welcome to the forum, and best of luck on the weight loss.
