My doctor just died at 37

Post by Bons » Thu May 31, 2012 9:59 am

My first sleep doctor died from a massive coronary while vacationing in London.

He and I had our major disagreements, but for the most part I respected him as a doctor. I first met him when he was attending an elderly member of my congregation who was dying. We worked together to convice the family to allow her to die (she'd been unable to eat or speak for years, had little quality of life, and the son was insisting on full respirator/ventilator support).

After I switched doctors he was always friendly when we ran into each other at the hospital. Nice guy, just screwed up my treatment.

He did a lot of research on poverty's relationship to and sleep deprivation's impact on health.

Sorry to hear about it. IMO, any specialist physician at age below 45 would be too young for me. Just calculate the time needed to become an experienced physician.

Unless you get the wunderkind of his class!
You definitely do NOT want an old Luddite.

A heart attack at that age makes one wonder if there wasn't a genetic predisposition. Even though you had differences on handling your treatment, from his subjects of interest it sounds like he cared about making the world a better place. Too bad his efforts have been cut short.

I have sleep apnea, but I don't snore. Never have. (I am also not male, obese or hypertensive)
I believe the screening criteria for sleep apnea is missing a LOT of people, who have a lot of unnecessary OSA related disease.
