Auto CPAP and constant nasal congestion

Post by resaco » Tue May 29, 2012 2:58 am

Hi guys!

I'm back, I'm the guy from this post viewtopic.php?f=1&t=76680&p=699608

Finally I got an Auto CPAP machine, indeed this https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/respi ... -flex.html

I have I also I have two masks, nasal mask and a full mask. I used the machine wit the nasal mask for two days and I slept 4 hours with it, then I wake up and I have to remove.

The results are here:

I'm sorry for the language of the results, but I'm from Spain hehe

I must say, as I put in the title, I have always some mucus / congestion, all day, since many years. I have no allergies or anything. I use sea water sprays but do little.
I wonder if, having this "problem" of constant congestion, which would be more useful when using the Auto CPAP, if the full mask or nasal mask. What do you think.

I need to say to that I don't know if I breath at night throught the nose or the mouth hehe.

What do you think friends? What mask I need to use if I have this little problem? Or what solution gave me to this thing?

Thank you so much!!

Did you get a humidifier with your machine?

Have you used it? At what setting?

Some people need a lot of humidity, some people don't need any... you may have to try it on a high setting and low, but find out from a doctor what the problem is as soon as you can... if you have a nose problem, it's not likely that a humidifier will be the complete answer, but if you are always congested, you probably need the full face mask to make sure no air at all is lost from your mouth.

Hi Julie!

I have an humidifer with my older machine, but when I used it, it don't make any type of difference.

My doctor saw me and he send me sea water spray, and nothing more.

Do you think if I use a full face mask (for mouth and nose) this problem will be finished?

Hi - did your doctor send you to a specialist in nose, ear and throat medicine?

Did he really give you a very good exam with special machines to look deep into your nasal structures and sinuses?

I have no idea what a FF mask will do (or not do) for you, but if you can try one for a few nights, in a good size for you, you should have some idea if it helps.

I've been to a specialist who operated on me the nasal septum and turbinates, and after seeing me in review says it's all right (it is true, I breathe a lot better than before) but I still runny. All he sent me for this is sea water, nothing else.

So this is why I ask you, to see what do you think, hehe

This is the complete study of the first night, using an Auto CPAP and a nose mask, please help!

My problem is that I wake up at four or five hours, and I need to quit the machine for sleep a little time more.

I have a runny nose too, and I don't know if using a full face mask will help with my problem
For more information, I have been in a UPPP, septoplasty and turbinectomy :

!Hola! I spent six months in Alicante in college.

I think there is a big difference between saline (salt) sprays and nasal rinses. Do you use a netipot like this? http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... JUBEPMCMAQ

The action of rinsing the sinuses is different than just spraying them with water.

I don't think it has anything to do with the Auto machine. And I would try a humidifier again.

If the nasal congestion and runny nose symptoms were present prior to cpap use (with or without the humidifier) then it is likely that the symptoms are unrelated to cpap use but it hurts nothing to add back the humidifier and add more moisture to see if it helps. If the symptoms are worse than when not on cpap machine..then definitely using a humidifier might help and worth a try.

Will a different mask help? Unknown because we don't know what the problem is but it wouldn't hurt to try different mask to see.

You may need to evaluate the nasal congestion and runny nose symptoms separately from cpap use...pretend you don't use a cpap machine and treat it with the usual nasal congestion and drainage thing. Oral meds maybe, a RX nasal spray like Flonase, along with the normal saline nasal sprays and netipot stuff. Just regular saline spray is probably not going to be sufficient. Might want to research vasomotor rhinitis...you might fit in with those symptoms.

BTW your reports look pretty darn good. Leak line is excellent. No real urgent need to change anything. If that 4 cm pressure is a bit stifling you can likely increase the minimum a bit for more comfort. You might also consider the maximum limit...If you continually see those level plateaus maybe giving the maximum a little more room to see where it needs to go. Not hugely critical though.

Other than the nose problem.....did you rest well? Feel decent? We don't expect miracles. Any problems sleeping with the machine?

Edit....found out machine is set to 20 max and the leveled out pressures are not maxed out minimum pressures...the machine just doesn't want or need to go any higher. It is a non issue.
