What kind of doctor should you see for sleep apnea?

Unfortunately, many of the specialist buy into the medial mafia mantra on sleep apnea. The patient doesn't need to know anything. The doctor is God. All the patient has to do is shut up and wear the machine. Failures are due to wimpy, whiny patients. Data from the CPAP machine is useless. Only an expensive and profitable in-lab PSG test is useful. Patients should not be allowed to make any adjustments on their own, or see any data.

My PC doctor has taken over the reigns of my treatment from the ENT that got me started. Maybe it is just me, maybe it is my doctor (actually this one and the other I had for 25 years) but I can talk to him. I had my last checkup a week ago and I went in with my 5 months of data. I showed him the changes I made, we talked about my AHI and he agreed that my treatment was successful and my OSA was being controlled. That said, I would bet that he went home and started "brushing up" on OSA and treatment and he will take a more active role in the discussion for my next visit.

I agree with the basic sentiment in this forum. You really have to educate yourself and act as your own advocate. After all, you are the one being helped...or not.
