I got my Respironics 550 Auto CPAP as an upgrade from a Respironics Pro with AutoIQ after being on CPAP for a month.
Good:
I much prefer the auto pressure to a fixed pressure. I was on a fixed 8, but my first night on the auto it ranged between 8 and 10 with a possible range of 8 to 14. I wasn't rolling around as much and not being awakened by snoring, so it is definitely making a big difference. My wife also said she noticed I was sleeping better.
Bad:
The Auto has the same decibel rating as the Pro, but it seems much louder. The change in the tone between inhale and exhale was waking my wife up, so I went through the forum and found that someone recommended turning A-Flex off. I did that and now the sound is a little different, but still too loud and now its waking me up too.
Since switching to the Auto, my nasal passages and throat are drying out like I'm not getting enough humidity. I raised the humidity setting and I already use a hose cover, but it still feels dry.
Is there that much difference between the Pro and the Auto? Or did I get a bad unit?
My DME is kind of a pain, but that seems like a normal thing. I anticipate it's gonna be a battle to get the Auto CPAP exchanged. Do I try another of the same one or would a different brand not have these issues? They carry Respironics and Resmed.
My insurance rents it for the first few months, so it shouldn't be an issue of cost to me, but I'm sure the DME isn't going to want to take another one back.
Thanks,
Mike

Re: First nights upgraded from Pro to Auto
Given that you seem to be sleeping better with the auto, it may be that your pressure was set too low on the Pro at 8 cm. You MAY do better with straight cpap but it sounds to me like you should raise the pressure to 10cm maybe in straight cpap mode and see how that works for you.
