Respironics M Series Release Date?

Post by CollegeGuest » Thu Mar 16, 2006 7:42 pm

When is the Respironics M series due out? I need to buy an APAP, but I'd hate to buy a Remstar with the M series due soon. The biggest reason I guess i'm waiting is becuase I travel alot and the M series is suppose to be alot smaller.

Anyone know release dates? Also, is it just a smaller size or has the algorithims been rewritten for better results?

According to the Respironics investors conference call, the M series are to begin release in April after the spring MedTrade show with the basic model first and then ending with the auto nearer to the end of the quarter (June '06). I have not read or heard that the algorithm will be new and improved... it's likely not.

According to the Respironics Series M website:

http://remstarautomseries.respironics.com/Features.asp

The new Series M Auto w/Cflex will have Digital Auto-Trak™ Sensitivity.

Which according to the website "is a revolutionary piece of built-in software designed to detect the onset of inspiration and expiration in order to synchronize the delivery of noninvasive b-level therapy. Auto-Trak Sensitivity immediately responds to respiratory changes. assuring patients the comfort they need throughout therapy. Breath-to-breath sensitivity is automatically maintained, minimizing the need for manual sensitivity adjustment. The system continually monitors and adjusts itself to accurately track the patient's breathing patterns."

It appears that this is software that is currently employed in Respironics BiPAP machines that will now be used to improve the Cflex response in the new series M APAPs.

Interesting that it would show up on Yahoo first!

The seller indicates that the pricing will be around 1750 when it is formally released. What would that translate to for a web retailer like cpap.com?

Seems like a pretty high price for a straight CPAP.

The seller is probably referring to the absolutely rediculous prices that DME's charge. Remstar Auto w/ Cflex is 670 on cpap.com, but can be 1500 from DME's. Thier just touting the price to make it seem a "deal".

Stumbled upon a M Series listing on an actual site last nite. The creator sells on Yahoo, and that is how I found thier site. This seller is, however, seperate from the previously mentioned Yahoo auctions seller.

After emailing and asking about the release date, the seller said, "Some dealers already have them, but they are not available yet to everyone. I
expect them in April."

I cannot imagine a legitimate place for someone get the machine that is being sold on Yahoo auctions. Sounds like someone who works for Respironics walked off with one....(Reminds me of that old Johnny Cash song about stealing a car from the assembly line one piece at a time....)

One online vendor has the M series auto advertized now with the following note:

This system has not been released yet. You can order now and be the first to receive one when we receive our first shipment. We expect these to be released by Mid April 2006

Looks like the pricing is comparable to the larger Remstar Auto.
