Possible Sleep Apnia

Post by johnm » Sun Jan 09, 2005 5:09 pm

I have been having numbness on my left side in the past week and I feel like I have a bad hang over every morning. As I fall asleep, I have the sensation that I am not going to breath. I went into the Emergency Room a couple nights ago, because I thought I was having a stroke. I was weak on my left side and had some head pains. By the time, they tested me, the numbness was gone and I had no head pain. They sent me home, saying that they could not find anything wrong. 1. Could this be a sleep apnia problem? 2. Could I possibly be in a life threatning situation, until I get help? 3. Is there anything I can do to keep safe, until I can get to a sleep clinic? Thanks.

PS Both my brother and father have sleep apnia.

Hi Johnm,

I'm glad you've found our forum. There are lots of helpful people here, so keep checking in.

Hope you've set up doctor appointments right away; tell them it's a major emergency and get help NOW! I'm sure you know, you don't want to procrastinate on this. I'd say get a good pulminory doctor or at least a good doctor fast. Do you snore? Do you have a parner who can describe how you sleep (whether you choke or seem to stop breathing)? I've seen people on this forum describe some of your symptoms. Whether or not it's sleep apnea, you sure need to find out for sure. I urge you to insist on being checked out right away. Let us know where you're from. Maybe someone can suggest a good doctor. Keep us posted.
