Surge protection

Post by Marzzz » Wed Mar 15, 2006 6:35 am

I'm new here, so this topic may have already been covered by others before me. However, a friend suggested investing in a computer-quality surge protector for my BiPAP machine. This sounds like a good idea. I was also wondering what people do in the event of a severe lightning storm. I always unplug my computers when this happens. Would I need to stop using my BiPAP and unplug it at night as well? The chance of lightning directly hitting my house may be remote, but it's always a possibility. I've read about people having their electronics fried from lightning. Gee, a person could get fried too, because the charge would travel from the machine to your head!

A good quality surge protector is a good investment for MANY kinds of electrical/electronic equipment. And your CPAP machine is deserving of protection. I wouldn't bother with one of the battery backup types if you use a heated humidifier as MOST of the heated humidifiers won't run off the battery anyways. But surge protection is a good idea.
