Battery for Respironics Bipap - Where/which to buy ?
Hello all.
I am writing from India.
I am using a Respironics Bipap auto machine.
I would like to know which battery back up should I buy for it , which I can use when visiting smaller towns here which dont have constant power supply.
Also, are there any "integrated" options available wherein the battery automatically restarts if the power goes off ?
Love,
Deepak

Re: Battery for Respironics Bipap - Where/which to buy ?
I just got the respirnics battery pack to use with my Respironics BiPap. I have used it two different nights while camping but not two nights in a row. I did use the humidifier so it really used up the battery. I do not know how low the battery actually was but when it was hooked up to charge it indicated a low charge. Wtih a moderate setting I was told the BiPap should run about 28 hours.
As far as charging when the power comes back on, the battery is set up to charge or run your cpap not both at the same time.
I would think if that is what you want, you could use a computer UPS of the appropriate size for your BiPap.

I use a car jump starter. Of course, you will need to make or buy a DC power cord to fit your machine.
Another Battery Option

IF you need to extend the battery time you can simply connect another battery in parallel - (positive to positive and negative to negative) and continue to use the jumper start charger to charge both (that is once the external battery has been fully charged the jumper should be able to maintain the charge).
IF you can't find an auto jump starter locally, try Amazon, I no longer recommend ebay due to problems with the sellers which ebay refused to deal with but hey it IS your time & money.

If you read the link above, I plug the jump starter into the AC wall power then plug my BiPap into the jump starter DC outlet. This works very similar to a UPS in that IF the power goes out - my BiPap never even blinks.heartchakra wrote: Also, are there any "integrated" options available wherein the battery automatically restarts if the power goes off ?

Re: Battery for Respironics Bipap - Where/which to buy ?
Deepak, cpap.com sells the ones that I purchased.
This is the one that I purchased https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respir ... e-kit.html
This is all the battery packs they sell on cpap.com https://www.cpap.com/cpap-battery-power ... #/:::::20:
I got the bigger one because that is what cpap.com recommended because I have a BiPap machine.

Deepak, I think being in India you should note the note at the bottom of the page:
"We are only authorized to sell and ship Philips Respironics products to end-users residing in the United States."
As far as I am concerned I have been using r e s p s h o p . c o m and have nothing to complain about.

@Gerry - Are you happy with your purchase because I too was looking at the same one. How long does the battery last and how long to charge it back ?
@userfromsingapore - thank you , am seeing the site.

I am happy with the purchase. I have run my BiPap with humidifier overnight and have not tried a second night yet. I did nto time how long it took to recharge but i know it was less than 8 hours.

Re: Battery for Respironics Bipap - Where/which to buy ?
Ok, I did a test with this battery pack. I ran my machine on battery Friday night and last night. Friday night I used the cpap on battery with the humidifier running and set to 3 for 7 1/4 hours with a 90% Ipap of 9.6 and a 90% Epap of 7.1. Last night I ran it on battery again without charging it and it went dead in an hour and a half. The numbers were almost identical.
So now I know I will need some type of solar charger if I go camping in the boonies. I may pull out an old stand alone humidifier to run separately and see how long the cpap alone runs on battery.
I thought the run time on battery would be a little longer.

Most UPSs are designed to provide power for a short period of time, not to power a device all night long.Gerryk wrote:I would think if that is what you want, you could use a computer UPS of the appropriate size for your BiPap.
If you're backpacking, it's unlikely you can carry enough solar panels to charge your battery enough during a day to run the CPAP all night. Even if you do have a big enough solar cell array, you'll need a place to set them during the daylight hours, sunlight during most of the day, and you will have to be in one spot long enough to charge the batteries, not hiking to another location.Gerryk wrote:So now I know I will need some type of solar charger if I go camping in the boonies.

Their are portable solar chargers that are big enough and designed to do stuff like this. I am just waiting to hear back from the Engineers so I have exactly what they say I need.

Re: Battery for Respironics Bipap - Where/which to buy ?
Hey, I figured I would post an update since I have used this battery pack several times in different weather conditions and used it inside during a power outage. I had no problems during the summer, as I turned the humidifier down to 2 from 3 because the outdoor humidity was higher during the time I was camping. I did take the scouts to a week long summer camp and charged the battery during the day the first day in the camp office. After that I charged it in camp off a solar array and batteries a friend had. He had two solar panels and we charged our phones, my battery pack and he ran a radio and tv off the batteries.
Granted, you need the two big batteries and solar panels but if you are not hiking in and camping this is an option. I did recently use the batter pack overnight outside camping when the temps were in the upper 30's and left the humidifier on 3 and it ran the whole night which was a little over 6 hours. The battery pack was low when I charged it.
if the humidity outside is high enough, you can just use the humidifier as a passover humidifier without running the heater or use it on low.
Gerry
