Ultimte Chin Strap

Post by squid13 » Sun May 06, 2012 9:23 am

Is anybody using or has used the Ultimate chin strap and if so what is your opinion of it. It looks like it would get the job done but for $59.95 plus S&H makes it $66.90 it's pretty expensive.

I bought one and then realized I didn't need it since I wasn't mouth breathing. I would try a cheaper chin strap first and fail with it before spending the $60. Also you need to keep in mind that the UCS covers a lot of your head; other chin straps have a smaller profile.

I have 5 different chin straps in my drawer and none of them stopped me from blowing air out threw my closed lips. I'd wake up making that motor boat sound. The last one I tried was the pap cap, it fit OK but I'd still motor boat all night long. I'm taping and it works OK but if this would work I could stop taping. It's a lot of money to put out to find out you don't like it.

If you have failed with several chin straps then maybe the UCS will be your answer. Look at his videos on his website; you can get a good idea of how it fits. There is a Velcro on top that can fit around your hose to route it over your head if you want to.

I've looked at his videos on his web site. I just have to decide if I want to part with that much money for that piece of cloth. I realize a person needs to get there investment back but do you have to do it all at once. Might sell a lot more of them if the price was a little cheaper.

A while back a few members did try the UCS. Some liked it and some didn't. Don't know if those that didn't like it utilized the 30 day money back thing or not and if they did how long it took to get their money back.
If you do a search on the forum for that thread there was some discussion there about it.
I don't remember just when the thread occurred though. Maybe late last summer or early fall. Time flies so quickly that I don't remember exactly.

Forgot to ask...the motor boating...does it wake you up multiple times during the night and/or does it show up as a bad leak on your reports?

I agree, it's too expensive, and I only used mine once. I can say however that they are great at communicating; if the one they send needs to be bigger or smaller they will go the extra mile to get you one that's right.

Squid, do you mean this Ultimate CS:

Image

It's ridiculous!

I been doing OK with these:

Premium Chinstrap :
Image

The Premium chinstrap is valveti and thus catches with the mask straps Velcros, even if I wear it over the mask's straps.

and
Topaz Adjustable Chinstrap
Image

The Topaz is smooth and elastic. I wear it under the mask's straps. It does not fight with the mask's straps Velcros.

and will do OK on:

Puresom Ruby Adjustable Chinstrap

It has to do with the elastic property of the fabric.

IMO, those chinstraps with pulling straps that tilt backwards on the head could cause TMJ (Temporomandibular Disorders) PROBLEMS.

It wakes me up and that along with all my small aches and pains amount to about 4 or 5 times a night. I take 20MG of Amitriptyline that you recommended to me along with Ultram 50 MG, it helps but doesn't reduce it all the way, there is still that small amount left that wakes me after awhile. I have bad shoulders and a bad back, both shoulders have been operated on along with my back 3 times on it and neck 3 times with a metal plate in it. I think I'm going to ask for some Ambient so I can use it once in awhile. I just would like to get away from taping.

Bummer... I totally understand the cervical spine thing. I have a plate in my neck also.

You know me...if the motor boat wasn't waking you up and really didn't show up on the leak graph I wouldn't do anything about it..but since it is and your sleep is so fragile anyway...then yeah you have to do something about it.

I was hoping that with time your mouth would learn not to motor boat and thus no need for tape. I was lucky I guess in that regard. After a couple of months of taping the mouth learned to stay shut for the most part. At least well enough not to mess with taping anymore.
I didn't have much luck with chin straps but I admittedly didn't try but a couple along with some various homemade contraptions. I found it just easier to tape.

Yes that is the one I'm talking about. I've tried those two you have pictured and they didn't work.

What is the difference between the Topaz and the Puresom? I have the Puresom and really like it because it pushes the bottom lip up toward the top and stops any leaks. However, when I first got it I wished it was a size larger. But after using it for a couple of weeks I have gotten used to it or it has stretched a bit. An adjustable version might be the answer.

I've used the Ultimate Chin Strap for over a year now, and it seems to be the only one that works for me. They had just come out with them when I first purchased, so I only paid 39.95 + shipping. Then I was able to buy one from one of our forum members at a great price. I alternate them, machine washing them once a week. So far they seem to be holding up fine, and I hope to get another year+ from them. I tried everything, including the papcap. My two complaints: the ultimate chin strap can get a little hot (but I understand they are now made with a lighter material); it's hard to scratch an itch under the chin strap!

I wonder what justifies a $20 increase in price. I've just about decided I'd love to try it but the price is just to high for that piece of cloth. That's $67 when you add in shipping. I didn't see any where on his web site about a 30 day money back guarantee.
