As I mentioned previously, statins reduce/inhibit natural coenzyme Q10 availability for your body. Coenzyme Q10 is used primarily for aerobic energy production by mitochondria which are found mostly in muscle cells.

If you take statins (which I would avoid unless you have done KIF-6 genetic testing for positive polymorph carrier status), you should supplement with bioavailable coenzyme Q10 (Ubiquinol with Kaneka) to mitigate statin's muscle side effects. Your liver still gets screwed however with statin metabolism. So don't do statins unless you absolutely have to and you don't know if statins will even benefit you unless you get the genetic test.

Also, if you are into chronic aerobic exercise, you would do well to supplement with Ubiquinol with Kaneka.

Friends:
Statin drugs are POISON. I would not take them on a bet. Their destructive side effects are, as you will read, cumulative. Only partially reversible on cessation. I would not take a statin drug on a bet.

Please do yourself a favour and google "statin drugs kill" and see what you come up with.

The latest research is pretty damning. I stopped taking them for my 'cholestorol' and went on a paleo-like diet for the most part. The doctor keeps prescribing them and telling me how wonderful all of my blood test results look (including a full cholosterol screening).

FWIW. Please google 'statin drugs'.

I'm on two statins: Simvastatin and Fenofibrate. I would like to be off of them. Can't recall exactly but I think I've been on them for 6+ years. My Triglycerides being elevated have been the main reason I was prescribed them. My doctor suggested the "low carb" diet back in February and I have done well on it losing 28 lbs. My BMI is now in the low/normal range My doctor hasn't had me retest the lipid panel as of yet.

Any suggestions?

Both my brother and I had cholesterol issue that needed to be addressed. I addressed mine by diet change and a low dose of statins. He managed his by doing nothing.

He died of athrosclrosis three years ago. I just went through a stress test and was normal.

The choices we make about our health are ours. Just like our choice to treat our sleep apnea or not.

Can you live with the consequenses? [pun intended]

Demand that your doc retest with an extended cholesterol test such as Berkely, VAP, or NMR. Otherwise fire your doc and find a new one.

The lower your carbs, the lower your trigs ... pretty straight forward. Improving HDL may take a little more work ... as in high intensity interval training.

Thought can indeed lead to discourse but running away won't change that.

Stay awhile and learn to seek your own truth. If you disagree with something, do your own research and satisfy your doubts. This is a great forum full of intelligent information, outrageous and otherwise, but you will never know by running away.

In early March my doc put me on simvastatin. I had no symptoms from it that I could tell. Everything was great. I had a colonoscopy as a "bonus" around that time, "just because". 10 days post colonoscopy I had a full large intestinal blockage. I'm talking FULL.... COMPLETE, from stem to stern. Never had such a problem. I got it "resolved" (sorry) at home with over the counter meds. It was not pleasant. Wind forward to about 3 weeks ago, again, another full large intestinal blockage but this time pain was extreme (I was gonna pop) and was rushed to the ER. It took them some hours and significant body "violation" and lots of different meds, including large doses of dilaudid to (not) kill the pain. They get it "resolved" without surgery. Next day I am to guzzle large quantity of mag-citrate to clean me out end to end. Doesn't work... I'm still 100% blocked higher up... more meds in large quantities and various "procedures". I "resolve" again. The following week I can tell I'm filling up again, blocked. I do ER follow up with internal medicine doc. Says "ideopathic" (unknown cause) "Intestinal Pseudo-Obstruction" (colon begins to stop working, most often due to a neurological problem... "imotility"... colon just slows to a stop). Tells me to take "plastic" (PEG... miralax) because that holds water better than the colon pulls. I mention that I had started simvastatin some weeks before the first episode. He thinks it is possible that simvastatin was the cause, tho not a common side-effect, pulls me off it. Runs a bunch of tests (not back yet). Now off simvastatin a week and a half, hey, I'm taking large doses of "plastic" and seem to be getting slowly better. So, could it be the simvastatin?

Interesting about the Simvastatin, I finally got a message to my doc that I would like to be switched to the (Pravastatin) - I think I said that right due to finding out that Simvastatin seems to be mentioned all over the web about being a Sleep stage interupter (Rem Suppresor) of sorts. I got a call back from the nurse that he really didn't want to do this just yet and prefered the Simvastatin over the Pravastatin. BUT, I was told I could discontinue the Simvastatin for a full week and report back if I noticed any improvement in my sleep of which I started to discontinue as of this past Friday night. Way too early to tell but I'm going to be leaning strongly on either getting me off this stuff or on to a less disturbing one if there is such a thing.

Ya, well, just in the last 30-60 minutes I'm starting to have symptoms again. It's one of those things where you say "Gee, I'm all better!" and somehow the aliens hear you and zap you. In my case I start getting back and leg symptoms and kidney "twinges' and like I have rocks inside. Now I start dosing up with other "stuff" to help with this unmentionable problem that I mention As an aside, I went off the Miralax brand for 3-4 days, taking the Target "Up" brand of Poly Ethylene Glycol (PEG) instead, and now wondering if the Target stuff does not work as well. At this stage I cannot say what the cause is, and that includes simvastatin. I am curious if others have had such an "experience" with simvastatin.

Getting old sucks. I'm only 55. I want to get old when I'm OLD !!

What if Bad Fat is Actually Good for You?
For decades, Americans have been told that saturated fat clogs arteries and causes heart disease. But there's just one problem: No one's ever proved it.
