It really works for me!!!! In addition to sleep apnea, I have very fragmented sleep. 180 arousals/awakenings a night. I started out with 3mg. Still awoke a lot. Then 6mg. Less fragmented, but still too many awakenings. I tried 9mg and that broke the fragmented still, but was too much. Had ringing in the ears, headache, and very groggy the next day. 6mg a night seems to do the job for me. I did a lot of asking about Meletonin. I asked the pharmacist and she said it's good for fragmented sleep, increases REM, and used for jet lag. I also checked with the School of Naturalopathic medicine here in Seattle to make sure there was no drug interaction with my other medications... Always Always a good idea especially for over-the-counter supplements.

I think each person responds differently. For myself, I would not do sustained release until you know how you are going to react to the supplement. Even then, the day after drowsiness may linger.

Hope you can find a solution that works for you! and good luck getting better sleep.

I've found that 5mg Melatonin taken a few hours before bed seems to work better than 5mg extended release tabs. Have no idea why.
