OT: Absolutely Fuming!!!! #$%^&*

I called today to place a new order for checks for my personal checking account. Its the first time I've placed an order in almost 2 years.

The sheisters want $20 for 150 checks!!!! Shipping is $5+ but that is still 10 cents a check just to have them printed!!!!!

This is the same company we've gotten our checks from for some 40 years (I think). Its the company our bank has used even when our bank was still handling the reorders.

Anyway, I am seriously considering closing this checking account of some 40 years - and our joint account too when we run out of those checks.

I double choked too, when my bank charged me $47.........I will use those cheques up and close my account. I have another bank that does not charge you at all for cheques. I went in the other day to order some and they said "hang on it will take about 5 minutes"....5 minutes were up, and out comes the young lady with 3 books of cheques..and there was NO charge. YIPPEE..guess where I am going to bank from now on, my local credit union.

I stopped printing checks through my bank years ago, going with some of the other companies. They were much cheaper (notice the word 'were') but my last order shocked me. Not only that, they charge per "box" and you get less checks per book than before.

Getting us no matter which way you go. It stinks.

Hey...last ones I got via my bank was $56 for 150 checks...Holy crap. I about fainted.
And get this....that amount caused an overdraft..fee of $35. Boy was I ever pissed.
My fault..I should have asked. I know. I learned though.

Banks are making up for the lost debit card fees and other more less obvious fees by charging for things that used to be free. I totally balked at paying a $5 replacement fee for a new debit card but guess what...the "supervisor" decided that since I was such a good customer to waive the fee. It was a close call because if the fee had not been waived, I would have become an ex customer of that bank!

My bank provides their standard checks free.

Edit: I also do bank card and automatic bill pay by going in and telling the bank when and how much to pay and it is on my schedule and am writing many fewer checks.

Our credit union supplies them free. It's hard to change a bank you've been dealing with for 40 years. Hugs!

Geeze. Ours has been a very good credit union but I just checked w/them and they charge $13.95 for 150 checks. *sigh* Ah well, I'm not done shopping yet. It'll be kinda sad to leave this small hometown bank after all these years but .... too bad, so sad, if I can find a better deal I'm gone. We've always tried to stay small home-town local even w/slightly higher prices but .... not this time, not w/this bank. Its not so small town any more as it has 5 branches total in surrounding small towns now and recently offered stock which we almost bought into.

Have you talked to the bank manager about this? See my post about getting my new debit card fee waived. The least that can happen is that your bank will know why you are leaving. I doubt very seriously that you are the only one to leave for this reason. We all need to speak up about the high costs of letting them keep our money.

Talk to a manager at the bank. Tell them how you feel. They may just order them for you to keep your business.
