Re: theophylline helps?
what exactly are the side effects, arrhythmia at high doses? isn't the drug not prescribed because the difference between the therapeutic and toxic dosage is small? I found a doctor to prescribe it for me but it didn't have a dramatic effect after about 5 days and then now I am back to getting fog and exhaustion
the mayo clinic site says diamox can also help central apnea but my doctor said I would need blood tests for it
I don't know the fact that the resmed adapt doesn't have a ramp makes it almost impossible to use or get continuous sleep on

Re: theophylline helps?
If you haven't taken off the training wheels (RAMP) before you get a Resmed Adapt, the lack of ramp isn't the problem..... It's lack to do your best to conform to treatment. The first thing you have to get right for good treatment is your head, after that many options will work. Re: theophylline helps?
I'm back on theophylline and it hasn't helped my central apnea after a few days. it gives me nausea and makes it difficult to sleep, who knows what it is doing to my heart though it is said to increase oxygen to the heart and treat angina
I don't know if I should continue it?
sleepyhead says I am getting hypopneas and unknown apneas but no obstructives. does that mean all centrals? it's amazing what the adapt does, my graph for inhalation pressure is all over the place and all jagged
I tried to install resscan but there was some script error when I tried

Which handle are you going to stick with apnea2142 or sickwithapnea17. You are only fooling yourself by trying to fool everyone else.

ResScan is Resmed's proprietary software.
I would not expect it to work with P-R data.

Re: theophylline helps?
What a shock .. it did not work. You will remember that we cautioned you that there is lots of clinical evidence that ASV is your best option. If there was another best option we would be right there using it. Trust me. I would rather not use an ASV. But it's either that or I awaken with horrible headaches. I choose the ASV over the headaches.sickwithapnea17 wrote:I'm back on theophylline and it hasn't helped my central apnea after a few days. it gives me nausea and makes it difficult to sleep, who knows what it is doing to my heart though it is said to increase oxygen to the heart and treat angina

And yes, it is amazing what the ASV units do. The pressure responds to your breathing.
So, you've had problems with ASV. How about posting some of the data? Without the data we are just guessing. And then take that same data and talk with your doctor about your problems with your therapy. Remember, you should work with your doctor to find the most effective therapy possible.

Re: theophylline helps?
I am in agreement with Mr. Fisher on the ASV. It is a life changer. I had a rough path a few months back, but I stuck with it and my doctor. I've had really good luck on all of this. Don't be afraid to talk to your doctor. Often doctors are willing to answer questions, and try treatments if they can possibly help. They really like data, graphs, information and peer reviewed journals, too. At least mine does.
If you choose to use theophyline, or whatever, that is fine with two stipulations: you use your ASV and O2 (or prescribed treatments) as well, and your decisions are informed ones.
So, post your data here, and show the data to your doctor. Good luck.

I am guessing/assuming that the apnea2142 handle was banned for spam deleting legitimate posts from threads under the apnea2142 handle. Several were removed and put back after it was brought to Carolyn's attention.nanwilson wrote:Which handle are you going to stick with apnea2142 or sickwithapnea17. Re: theophylline helps?
I don't know I'm really having bad nights now, I can't get enough ASV time in... I was perfectly healthy and then I just got this terrible disease for no reason, I would exercise several times a week and saw doctors. I guess if your lungs get messed up everything is terrible
I read a forum post saying theophylline reduced apneas or desats after 1 month and the mayo clinic suggests it but I felt really sick last night after taking it and couldn't even sleep on the ASV, just nauseous and my heart was racing.... then I woke up feeling terrible and foggy today. so maybe it is just too toxic for the heart- I thought it was ok since it seems to be chemically related to coffee

Re: theophylline helps?
Just stop taking the stuff! It's not indicated for apnea but you chose to experiment... well now you've discovered it makes you feel lousy, so just don't take it... and btw, you don't have a 'terrible disease', but a chronic condition like many others, and if you would give your doctors and equipment a reasonable chance to work for you, trying only one new element at a time, you might have a chance to feel better, but you insist on running all over the place, asking advice on things that no one's suggested plus ignoring the good advice that you've had... what do you really expect the outcome will be if you keep doing that?

A wee note to sickwithapnea17/apnea 2142 (same person)
We know that you have been deleting posts that you don't like or ones that disagree with your opinions. You need to seek professional help for your illness, not keep asking the same questions and disregarding the good advice given to you. Let it be known that we will keep posting in response to your statements (that don't make sense) if an effort to get you to seek professional help. This is an internet chat site for patients with sleep apnea.....we are patients, not doctors that deal with mental health.
To all the new folks that are trying to get advice and information about their sleep apnea.....please disregard any and all suggestions from this poster to take drugs to fix your apnea, cpap is the gold standard for this therapy, not unproven drugs. Please keep asking your questions and posting your views, the "oldies" on this site have been using cpap/apap for many years and are here to help you with your therapy. I am truely sorry that you have to put up with op's like this who are only here to serve their own purposes of trashing this wonderful site. If it wasn't for the patient and great advice I received here when I first started therapy and would have thrown my machine out the window. I hope that you (the newbies) learn to cope and be successful with this therapy.
Cheers
Nan

Re: theophylline helps?
Let me be perfectly clear, you know shinola for terrible diseases! All you have is a chronic condition that can and should be managed. There are folks here (and all around you) who struggle just to live. ASV is a good, effective therapy. It does take time to adjust to it. We will be happy to help you through the adjustment phase. But you need to TRY.sickwithapnea17 wrote:... I was perfectly healthy and then I just got this terrible disease for no reason ...
So, a WHOLE lot less of the "poor me, pity me" and a whole lot more on the "here's my data, here's the problem I have, what can I do?" side of it.

Agreed completely. Both you and I have had numerous posts deleted, which irritates me. But I, like you, am more concerned about new people coming here and listening to the rubbish being spouted by SWA and the aliases.nanwilson wrote:A wee note to sickwithapnea17/apnea 2142 (same person)

A reminder to the person who removed the post. Keep it up and Carolyn will get involved like the last time you pulled this crap and you might find yourself completely on the outside of this forum. JohnBFisher is bending over backwards to help you and has a whole lot more patience than most people. You don't really want any help or are unable to do anything but whine. Either way...we can't help you because you won't/can't help yourself.
BTW if you are tempted to remove my post..remember I can keep putting it back as long as I choose to and I will do just that. I am not nearly as patient (or as nice) as John.

It's sad to see good people waste their time on this poster. But -- I agree with many of you that we almost HAVE to post to help contradict what is being said and try to help people that really want and need help.
