MSLT, daytime sleepiness test

Post by apnea2142 » Tue Apr 17, 2012 11:34 pm

I had this MSLT, daytime alertness test done and it showed I have some daytime fatigue disorder but the doctor doesn't know why. I don't want to take nuvigil though
when I took restoril 15mg I seemed to wake up ok but not really rested with high O2 levels through the night. does restoril treat central apnea?

"Restoril (Temazepam)
http://www.nlm.nih.gov
Temazepam is used on a short-term basis to treat insomnia (difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep). Temazepam is in a class of medications called benzodiazepines. It works by slowing activity in the brain to allow sleep. Temazepam comes as a capsule to take by mouth. It is usually taken as needed at bedtime ..."

Restoril does not treat sleep apnea. Provigil/Nuvigil is a wakefulness agent used for hypersomnia (in your case "idiopathic" meaning a cause is not known), or narcolepsy. I have hypersomnia which simply means I sleep too much and took Provigil or Nuvigil for almost four years. It gave me my life back. Before taking the prescription I could not drive, stay awake during appointments, live a normal life. A percentage of people, even with successful CPAP treatment, continue to have excessive daytime sleepiness. In my case it lasted almost four years then stopped.
