ClimateLine hose not heating

Hi,

I have a new Resmed S9 with the heated ClimateLine hose.

In my Clinician Settings, "Climate Ctrl" is set to Auto, but even when I turn the user setting for Climate Ctrl all the way up (86 degrees F) I get very little humidification. I can't feel any heat from the hose at all.

Shouldn't the hose feel warm to the touch? What could be wrong?

I used to use an S8, and got a lot more humidification, but suffered rainout. That's what I was hoping that the heated hose would solve. My ENT doc says I need as much humidification as possible.

Any suggestions or insights?

Try unplugging from mains, disconnecting everything, and reconnecting (disconnect hose from humidifier, disconnect humidifier from blower, reconnect). One time my hose wasn't functioning and that worked.

If that doesn't work, the next thing I would try: connect a normal hose to the machine to see if it's putting out humid air (to exclude humidifier issue).

You can also try turning Climate Control Off, and set humidity yourself up to highest setting of 6 and see if that is enough humidity for you.

Do you find that the ClimateLine hose is noticeably warm to the touch when setting the Climate Ctrl to 86F?

If the heat in my climateline is turned up above 80 deg, I can feel a little warmth if I hold it for a few seconds, but nothing really noticeable otherwise.

Climateline hoses are notoriously flimsy and if the wire breaks, no more heat. I now tape the ends of my hoses where the tubing joins the business ends with silicone plumbers tape and this seems to be working well.

One time when my room was very cold during my first year on Cpap I felt the hose to be warm. Yet my unit is set to 83 degrees and everything is okay.
I have never had rainout.

Do you get any error message if the wire breaks in the ClimateLine hose? Or is it just that you don't detect heat any more in the hose that's hard to detect heat from in the first place?

The time that my climate line hose was very warm you could certainly feel it. My DME at the time said that you will seldom feel the hose warm unless it is very cold in the room When you connect the climate line hose and its says climate control enabled, everything is okay.I would think that if a wire was broken in the hose you woudn't receive the climate control enabled message.

I have set my humidity to "patient" in the clinician's menu, then to manual in the regular tool menu.
I can now set the humidity and hose temperature separately.
While fiddling around with my husbad's machine (he was complaining about too much humidity),
I figured out how to set BOTH.

Yes, I considered that but the problem is if you set it to manual you can have rainout problems again. I may give it a go. The whole idea was that the heated hose would allow more humidity while preventing rainout. If your husband wants less humidity he may not need a fancy hose at all.

I don't recall whether I saw a message when the wire broke on my climateline - perhaps I did, and that's why I inspected it to see why it wasn't working right.

A few nights ago I changed the climate line from Automatic to Manual... Then we had a real cold spell here and I had left all the windows in the house open....Brrrr...44 degrees in here.

I prefer lots of humidity...so I set the humidifier to 5...and I set the temp to 74 degrees. Zero rain out issues. One would think that I would have had a good bit of rain out (and I have used a non heated hose in the past and had copious amounts of rain out) but there was none. Two nights like this with the much colder than normal house temps. So going to manual mode doesn't necessarily mean rain out.

Regarding the hose not feeling warm to the touch. My climate line hose didn't feel warm to the touch even when I was using just 84 degrees in the Auto setting. I know it was working because I was using most of the water each night. Unless your hands are very cold and the room very cold..you may not perceive the temperate difference being warm.. Remember your body temp is involved with temperature sensations. If your hands are warm (body temp)...anything that is less temperature will tend to feel cooler than the body temp.
