Levin tube and CPAP mask

Post by rosacer » Thu Apr 12, 2012 1:13 pm

I have a question. If you need a Levin tube to be installed how are you going to use your CPAP? What's your options if you need it? Has somebody here been in that situation?

I ask because my best friend had surgery and she had that tube installed (for several days) to keep the stomach empty and stop her nausea. I was thinking at my CPAP and wondering what would happen if I need such a thing

Was she on oxygen? I would think that in the case of OSA you would be as a precaution.

She doens't have OSA. She doesn't have her gallbladder so the bile goes right to the stomach and it produced nausea. To empty the stomach the Dr installed the tube. She had oxygen with a loose big plastic kind of mask (not an OSA mask) when she was having morphine (the nurse told me the morphine disturbs the oxygen absorption and the saturation goes down if you doesn't have oxygen).

I don't see a way to put a CPAP mask with that tube in your nostril going down in your throat to the stomach, on top of that it should reduce the air passage in some way. I'm very curious, if you don't have it you wont stop vomiting, sure not exactly my case because I have my gallbladder but I imagine the Levin tube is used for other purposes too.

I don't know if having oxygen is enough because when the throat relaxes nothing will pass through.
