Jaw fatique with ResMed Quattro Mask
I am new to this forum and since I have used the Bipap since 1/1/12 I wake up with jaw fatigue. I never have had any problems with teeth grinding but now when I wake up my left jaw hurting. I am using the full face ResMed Quattro FX and I guess since I cannot get a good seal without the straps being tight, it is causing my jaw to hurt. Does anyone have a suggestion on a possible solution. It makes me not want to wear the mask due to the pain I receive. I had a 30 day fitting back in February and at that time did not have this type of pain. Please help if any one has had this problem before. I am using the ResMed Quattro FX medium and have tried the small with the mask having trouble with leakage. Thanks
Re: Jaw fatique with ResMed Quattro Mask

Hello & Welcome, Tswift1960! Glad you found this forum—SO much useful info and everyone here is so willing to help!
You're lucky to have found this forum as you begin CPAP—took me almost year before I found this place and, with the help of folks here, got my CPAP therapy working as it should. It does take time to get everything tweaked and working at its best, so patience is key as one begins CPAP. It does sound like your mask might be too tight--or, maybe the Quattro just isn't right for you. I tried a Quattro, and it didn't work for me, was very uncomfortable. After trying many masks, I ended up settling on my first one, an Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask.

Re: Jaw fatique with ResMed Quattro Mask
I had a lot of jaw pain when my mask was too tight. Remember that the Quattro FX is an AIR cushion, and the air cushion cannot seal properly if it's mashed against your face so that it cannot inflate. See the fitting tips in "taming the Mirage Quattro" in my signature below. You may need to replace your cushion because it can be wearing out (Medicare provides for monthly replacements), or try a different mask.
Fwiw, I found it VERY hard to get a good seal on the fx because of its broad shape.

Re: Jaw fatique with ResMed Quattro Mask
I never used the FX, but with the Quattro I found that if it was too tight, it hurt my gums. Loose is better. It gives the cushion a chance to fill with air.

Re: Jaw fatique with ResMed Quattro Mask
To wear a Quattro of either breed, I'd need either Leno's chin or Barbra's beak.
Wish they made it in my shape--nice adjustment, nice buckles--extra headgear sizes.
If wishes were horses, I could play polo.

Re: Jaw fatique with ResMed Quattro Mask
Thanks for the reply's. I have a problem on the upper part of the mask as when I inhale it tends to blow air out into my eyes. The bottom does the same at my chin. I have a appointment to see the Doctor to ask if I could change to a nose type mask it might be better. Any recommendation on that would be appreciated. I have tried the medium and small mask on the Quattro mask to no success. Thanks
