Hose Positioning - How to stick hose to quilt?

Post by GrantT » Thu Apr 05, 2012 9:47 am

What do you hoseheads do for keeping your hose in place on your bed? i.e. hose position. More specifically, on the quilt/blanket, so if doesn't slide off the side.

We are changing beds/frames (new KING size bed...woohoo!!!), but in the process, I am losing my old headboard, which I used to use to hang the hose above my head. I thought that was good, but the last few nights I have brought the hose from the side of the bed, and directed it up towards my head, and taped the hose down to the quilt as it was sliding off. I found it much more comfortable (fewer leaks and less strain/pulling). I don't like it coming under the pillow or from the top/down. I don't move around much, so the quilt stays in place pretty well.

I was thinking I might just get my wife to sew a small velcro patch onto the quilt, and then I can wrap some opposite gender velcro around the tube or something.

Ideas?

Grant

My hose slides off the bed....no big deal...no problem unless your hose is getting filled with water.

It IS a big deal since when it slides off it pulls on the nasal pillows and creates pressure/air leaks.

I used a clip from an old pair of suspenders. Put a short length of stick-to-itself velcro through it and around the hose and fastened it to the bottom sheet at the side of the bed about shoulder high. Works quite well.

I have used the stretchy straps with suspender style clips on each end and wrapped it around the hose loosely a few times and then clipped it to the sheet. Nothing is defaced and it can easily be moved wherever you want it. They are available in the either fabric stores or the linens department of department stores. I've even found them at dollar stores. Or cut a few inches of the ends off an old pair of suspenders and make your own.

Whatever you use, take care that it does not stress the hose in such a way as to weaken it or cause the hose to tear if tugged on.

How a guy positions his hose is a personal decision. It looks like you're comfortable with it on top of the covers. But have you considered routing the hose UNDER the covers? Prevents rainout and seems to stay in place better. Cover the hose with a tube of flannel, made from an old pair of PJs or bought online, and you'll hardly know it's there. At least that's worked for me. The cat goes under the beadspread, the hose goes under the blankets and everyone sleeps great. I learned the hard way to keep the cat and hose separate. Cat freaked once when she felt the hose. Evidently in the dark she mistook it for a snake and immediately went into 4-wheel drive, yanking the bedspread onto the floor.

I use a big paper clip.

Thanks for the ideas/photo. Keep em coming if you got em...

Yes, I find it more comfortable (the way the hose ends up in relation to the nasal pillow) with the hose on top of the covers. It's a heated hose, and I don't get any condensation (so far).

I'll have to snoop around and see what I can find for clips etc.

I use this hose hanger

It has eliminated leaks from my hose falling off the bed.
