Got a cold . .
Got a cold . .
Hello there CPAP world!
Got my cpap machine last week and have been using it for 5 days. Right after I started using it I got a cold (running nose, drainage, headache all the usual).
My question is this, has anyone else gotten a cold right after starting this cpap business or do you think it is just coincidence and I got the cold from my kids?

I am fighting the same thing, but it has nothing to do with CPAP. I've been cold free for 9 months, this is a first for me, but it's a doozy. Fess up We just got the bug. Jim

I used my brand new cpap machine for the 1st time and the following morning my face felt swollen, my nasal passages extremely dry and hours later i was sick with a bad cold. I was wondering if it was the mask, hoses ect that brought it on. After reading this I wonder even more. I have not used it again since I have been sick.
cough sniffle . . .
I expect that my cold is just being around the kids who of course always have runny noses (esp. my 3 yr old son who goes to day-care everyday). I was just curious about it tho. I will keep cleaning my gear everyday to may sure all is as good as it can be. Now I must go to the store and get some meds. Have a nice day!

we had this discussion yesterday with me, and i know many of you have been cold-free after cpap. but the timing for some of us is incredible. yes, itt has to do mostly to do with resistance, etc. but maybe some of us have sinus problems, dry noses , deviated septums to start with, etc. so that cpap just brings combustion, and the result is something that looks like a cold even if it's not. last night, i nearly burned my nose off with the ayr gel i found so comforting the othrt night. i'm now stuffing my nose with vaseline and saline. it's making my nose feel slightly better, but i'm a still a contender for mike's hurl-the-mask-at-nighttime award.
no, did full face last night and it did not stay on.

hey, i understand that. i'm just saying that it's something that looks like a cold, but maybe isn't. i understand the physiology of colds, but i'm just saying there's something bothering a few of us that started with cpap, and it looks like a cold--maybe it's not. we all have different physiologies. and yes, it could be coincidence that i'm catching one of my rare colds and it would be there even if i didn't do cpap. but something is going on, not onlu with me, but with others, and i'd like it to stop/not happen again.
