Bed Pillows for CPAP users

Post by gatsbee13 » Thu Mar 15, 2012 3:51 pm

Hello all,
Im looking into getting a better bed pillow as a CPAP user. I currently have the swift fx nose pillow and want a BED pillow that will go good with this type of CPAP mask. I did some searching on Google and came up with Countour (spelling) and My Pillow. The Countour is specifically made for CPAP users and the My Pillow aids people with snoring, sleep apnea, etc. I was wondering if anyone has had a good experience with any of these pillows listed or another type perhaps. Thx

Why can't someone come out with a cpap pillow for stomach sleepers. All you would need is an indentation in the center so the mask can get it's air. The one's on the market assume your going to hang your cpap off the side and we don't all do that. I did see one that had long corners at each end and I may try it when I find it again.

I just got a new pillow, from Kohls, it's a gel core pillow that stays cool and I am a stomach sleeper and I twist and turn a lot and I thought this pillow would be too hard, but it is wonderful, on sale for $39.00.
Kohls lets you return if you don't like it.

I tried them both and the My pillow was too fluffy for me. I use the contour pillow and I think it's great. Remember.... it's a "memory-foam" pillow, a little harder and flat. It works great with the mask.

I use a buckwheat pillow. I find that it can be easily shaped to meet my needs and it allows air to circulate to keep me cool. There are many places to purchase one. I got mine from this company: beans72

No, it's not a chillow, it's a memory foam pillow with a cool gel core that remains cooler than a memory foam pillow which tend to heat up with body temperature. This pillow from Kohls adapts to the room temperature and then stays cooler than the room. It's really nice, I was very surprised as it felt too firm to be good for a stomach sleeper but it adjusts easy to the mask by sinking in and not even the exhaust hits the pillow. Good Luck

I've been using a "neck roll". It's a foam cylinder 2 1/4" in diameter by 17" long. It gives nice support for your neck, allows your jaw to be up a bit and your head back. I occasionally used it well before starting CPAP. When I began using CPAP masks, I noticed that the pillow I had (a nice downy one, rather fluffy) sometimes interfered with and nudged the mask when I moved my head around. That disturbed the seal caused mask leaks. So I got out the neck roll and found it very compatible with CPAP mask use. Once you get used to it, it can even be used for side sleeping by resting the side of your face on the neck roll.

I was always a side/stomach sleeper until I started on the CPAP. With the CPAP I can actually sleep on my back and breath and it seems to be the preferred position (from a purely scientific standpoint, ignoring comfort). I have played with my old fiber fill standby but I can't get it to stay the same shape so I have varying success with it and it compacts over time and doesn't work as well. It also has bulges that bump the mask. I tried making a imitation buckwheat pillow using weighted poly beads (the kind used in the butt of beanie babies) but it was too stiff and cold for me.

I recently got a pillow from Ikea that I quite like, it is firm enough and provides support without the bulges.

I actually lay on my back with the 'side sleeping' end under my neck to tip my head up a bit extra to avoid aerophagia.

I too like cervical neck rolls, that said, be aware if you have any cervical spine issues, and you are lying in a bed the lack of head support can be very bad for you. I have had a cervical corepectomy, and the plate and screws in the neck need good head support, so no more cervical neck rolls for me.
