Exhalation ports are too noisy for spouse!
Exhalation ports are too noisy for spouse!
I am currently using a very old Respironics nasal mask (my original) which is quiet enough, but DEFINITELY needs upgrading!
I have purchased a variety of masks & each one seems to have exhalation ports that are too noisy and keep my wife awake!
I am interested in the Hybrid Full Face CPAP Mask with Nasal Pillows and Headgear by Innomed, but I am concerned that it TOO may be noisy?! Any comments??

They are only noisy if the air hits a pillow or blanket.

Re: Exhalation ports are too noisy for spouse!
theres going to be some amount of noise with flowing air coming out of a mask. if your mask is too noisy for her she'll have to get used to it or go to another bedroom because they are all going to pretty much have the same flow of air with corresponding noise. now, if the noise is from the mask leaking alot, then thats another story. you'll need to work on adjusting the mask on your head because the noise bothers her and it renders your treatment ineffective. you need to get together and figure out where the noise is really coming from.

Ye gads!
Don't let her move to another bedroom!
My gf wears earplugs sometimes.
She recommends Hearos or Flents rated 32 decibels or higher.
But as 'Spinner says, the exhale port normally only makes noise if the air is hitting a solid object like bedding. Try to position it toward the ceiling or another wide-open space.

We have a Bedroom Fan going all the time so you can't really hear any noise from the masks. Any kind of white noise in the background works, you may want to try.

I use the Innomed Hybrid and I only hear it when the air hits the pillow or blanket....otherwise is very quiet. I've tried 8 or 10 masks and I found them all noisy if the air hits something.

Re: Exhalation ports are too noisy for spouse!
I don't have a lot of experience with masks, I have only used a ResMed Mirage Micro and a ResMed Mirage FX. I must say that the square ports on the Micro were a bit louder than the round ports on the FX. If it isn't noise from hitting blankets etc than it may be the port shape. My physics brain say that round ports are less likely to cause excess turbulence.

I'm always smacking the comforter to get it out of the air stream.
I even do it half awake.
Luckily hubby's machine keeps him from snoring/gasping.
Otherwise I might be smacking him too.

Re: Exhalation ports are too noisy for spouse!
Well i guess I have the advantage of being born deaf so I don't hear the noise from any of my masks. Just don't care for the cold air blowing out on my hands, but I found a solution to that for Wintertime use,, I wear a pair of light weight mittons to bed and those keep my hands warm and then my arthritis doesn't bother me either. My gosh so much to go through just to be comfortable at a night. Huggies, Fay

Base2balls I do the same thing, but crochet them in all cotton, different colors, and they go all the way up to the elbow. I use to find "slouch" socks and use them cutting off the foot part, lol

Re: Exhalation ports are too noisy for spouse!
Hard to believe that the noise can't be easily masked by a fan or motor, I use a recording of nature sounds, storms, Rain or wind played all night through the stereo. I'm sure my wife would rather deal with noise than waking up with my cold dead stiff body to bury in the back yard. Then, she wouldn't have anyone to complain too all. Jim
Just joking, I have my own bedroom. I could use a dog as a foot warmer though. The last one I had hogged the bed. (A large hound dog), so je soon earned the floor.

The Fisher and Paykel HC405 nasal mask is VERY quiet, as it has a filter on the vent, but it may not suit you needs if you are after a full face mask.

The earplugs my gf recommended above are very easy to insert and remove, and they come in a number of different, attractive colors.
She even has some that glow in the dark, which is very handy if I'm trying to find her.
