Covering the mask vent

Post by Cait » Fri Mar 02, 2012 9:22 am

I've got the nasal pillows Image

and the air blowing out is cold as heck and annoying sound on my pillow.... So i've wrapped a piece of fleece fabric around it.

There's still air getting out - def not as much, only now its warm.

My supplier guy said dont cover it up, as thats how the CO2 Escapes.

Ive tried it uncovered and covered, and it doesnt seem to make a difference at ALL to me,except getting rid of the cold and noise.

Has anyone else messed with covering the vent?

What part of 'that's how the CO2 escapes' didn't you understand? If you wish to have deadly CO2 build up in your body/brain....by all means, cover it up.

Yup, and I'm sure they are either brain dead or DEAD!
Covering the air vent means you are re-breathing your exhaled air.........very bad.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Yeah, but since its fabric and some air still gets out, would CO2 still get out? at the normal rate at which it gets out? How much less? I dont know how dense it is compared to oxygen.

What about 'piping" the exhaust somehow?

the air is SO COLD I cannot have it blowing on me at all <=/

Covering it up is the only way i can stop it from blowing into my eyes and my hands and bouncing off my pillow into my face.

in all seriousness, get your last will and testament up to date and cancel your life insurance because the insurance company will be able to make a strong case for suicide.

The design of those vents win the most stupid ever award. But who cares if you're dead? Don't cover the vents!

My solution is to hang the hose. That points them up to the ceiling instead of down on me.

Thanks for the suggestion, and not a "You're going to die, you stupid idiot" post.

Unfortunately, we're in an apartment and can't really hang anything..

There are a number of hose hanging solutions that don't have to be affixed to the wall, starting with rigging something up on your headboard. Google CPAP hose management.

Oh come on. Didn't you ever hear of Command Strips? Or plaster with a touch of paint to cover up after? That CO2 must have done a number on you!
Search Hose hangers, there are even floor stands available. For that mater you could pick a cheap floor lamp and hang the hose over that.

Swap out your mask for a Swift LT. It's basically the same design but has a clip on the head band to bring the hose up above your head. The vent blows down and out. The only time I have a cold air problem is if I have my arm up in front of my face. The air blowing on it gets it cold then.

I use the Command cable minder on my antique headboard, and also have a supply I take when on vacation staying in hotels/ship cabins etc. Never been an issue on any furniture or walls.

And, err.. covering the vent is a seriously bad idea.

cheers,
xena

We've used a clothespin and a stretchy little girl's headband clipped to the curtains.
We ran a clothes line diagonally between the blinds in a motorhome, hanging the bungees from that.
Just use your imagination--and forget about decorators--they don't know everything.

I remember reading here about someone who uses filter material, the same black one used on the CPAP machine, to cover the vent holes. She felt that if it was good enough for the intake, it would be good it enough for the exhaust holes.

I think the safety of covering the vent holes like that would depend a great deal on the amount of pressure your machine is set at. I was definitely thinking of creating some kind of cotton ball cover to defuse the air coming out of the vents instead of sending it directly to my wife's face.

Right now, the vent is affecting my sleep habits. I'm forced to sleep mostly on my left side because when I roll onto my right, I think too much about where my vents are blowing, and then roll back over.

Another option is to sleep with your head under the covers, but be careful that you don't cover the vents with your blanket.

Dave.

My FX blows on the duvet, so I've been punching it down so much, I do it in my sleep.
Sometimes, it blows on hubby--hope I'm not punching him!
