Day five. I minimized the Oxycodone to 1 pill / 6 hours and spread it further by taking half-a-pill. Unfortunately, the pain seems to have increased and I'll have to crank up the dose a bit. I feel nauseous and can't sleep - I can't tolerate my own CPAP, after so many years of use! This is nasty stuff.

When I had broken wrist surgery last summer I was given Percocet. It didn't make me sick though. I was able to use the cpap machine from the very first night.
I assume you are doing the usual...taking the meds with meals.

Day six. Yes, I'm always taking medications as prescribed (and with food, as much as I can eat), but my body/mind seems to be very sensitive as the psychotropic effects of Oxycodone were excessive. I was able to contact my surgeon yesterday in time to switch my medication to Tylenol Codeine #3 and all those nasty effects went away. Of course, the borderline nausea persists and I'm quite drowsy now, but that is highly preferable. It also seems that pain is not managed as well, but I did another hypnotherapy session today, so we'll see how that goes.
So far the morale is: be prepared not only for the surgery but for the post-operative period, as well.

I had an ACL resection in 1981 after partially popping it playing racquet ball, but with no soft tissue damage. Later in 2000 I got a bucket tear while pitching softball. My advice is. For the first 3-5 days keep that knee above your heart every moment of every day!!! At least for the first few days. I lay on a couch in the living room and propped my ankle on a freezer at the end of the couch. Secondly, they told me stretching and isometrics would be good if I could tolerate them. I took my pain meds every three/four hours, so I did the exercises every three/four hours. Thirdly once I had seen the doc (surgury Thursday, doc Monday) then I decided that for the next few months I would drive to a friends house that was a couple miles from work. I drove there every morning and walked in to work (mostly downhill) and then walked back (mostly uphill) there before driving home at the end of the day. It was winter, a little slippery (which hurts, YOW!) but after two months, my doctor was totally amazed. He said he had never seen even a younger man rehabilitate so successfully.

I should add, I was a 44 year old post doc at the time. There was a professor with an office across from mine who had his surgury a couple weeks after mine. He did not do the leg elevation. He decided to get on his feet and go to a professional meeting right as soon as he could walk. Guess who ended up back in surgery a second time?
