Need help with my Rescan pressure graph

Post by derek70 » Thu Mar 01, 2012 4:37 am

Finally got my Rescan card reader to read my Autoset II S8 data.

Something got my attention when reviewing detailed graph of my last 5 nights.

There's a few Pressure=0 in the graph, some with Apnea, some with Leak event, and some with no other event.

I don't remember stoping machine during the night, I guess it's reported as a mask event.

I'm very confused with no pressure events in my graph.

I'll try to post a screenshot of the detailed graph later.

Congrats on finding a card reader. They're pretty rare these days. Did you jury rig it or buy the official one? Looking forward to your graph.

Hi dreamdiver.
I got the Resmed reader from a guy from Israel that sells it in ebay.

Here is a piece of my graph.
Look at the zero pressure with apnea.

Thanks for your help.

That's strange. I have never seen a graph like that. Is this the only time it has happened?
Have you seen the tutorial Dreamdiver made for resscan? The link is in my signature below. It will tell you how to view the flow data and adjust the range on the screens you are viewing.
You have all obstructives and tons of hypopneas. It seems like it wouldn't take much of an adjustment to clean those up.

Man, if that happens again I'd be inclined to say you have a funky machine that needs to be replaced. There's no way that I can see that a machine would drop to zero pressure, especially when it's not in autoset mode. The blower is either losing power momentarily or a flow sensor is going wonky. I doubt it's a flow sensor though. If it was a flow sensor it more than likely would show an instantaneous drop off. It looks like the blower fan turned off and then right back on, hence the incline drop and rise.

Just to be sure I understand what your concern is: There is a dip to zero pressure at about 23 minutes after midnight. Then the pressure resumes normally. Is this correct?

If the only place on the graph where the pressure went down was that one area, it makes me wonder if there was a brown-out or something. Do you experience power surges and blackouts frequently in your area?

I cannot think of anything else that would cause a dip in pressure. The concurrent AHI may or may not be related. I'd keep watch on this. If you see it happen again, it might be interesting to see another similar graph.

I wish I could be more helpful. The machine reports what it senses. The only thing I can think of would be either a general power fluctuation or some insect or small rodent temporarily clogging your flow generator.

What's the high resolution flow-rate data look like?

I'd be more inclined to believe it's a data glitch rather than an actual drop to zero pressure. However, either is possible.

But it drops again at 5AM... I would like to see the graphs expanded.

See anything more like that the last couple of nights?

Thank you all for your feedback.
Since I have started analizing my data on Rescan for less than a week ( I didnt have card reader before) I need to study it a little bit (thank you Lizistired and dreamdiver for tutorial).
For now, I only remember that I'm used to Stop my machine flow during the night to adjust my mask.
At first, I thought that this was reported as "Mask Event" (not zero pressure) in Rescan. I'm quite sure that "zero pressure events" happens when I hit the Stop button ( except the one I posted above that pressure hit zero in conjuction with Apnea Event and then resume quite instantaneously).
I'll make some screenshots of the 5 detailed nights I have on Rescan. I hope I don't have a malfunction machine.

The graph is strange. It is in Spanish and does not differentiate between Obstructive and Central apneas.
Could it be that some of the many Hypopneas are actually Central apneas?
Is it b/c of the type of XPAP that you have?

Resscan definitely shows the sessions as separate mask events whenever you turn the blower off, even if for just a couple of seconds. There is always a break in the graphs when the machine is off.

idamtnboy, I quite sure some of the "zero pressure" periods was when I stopped the air flow to adjust my mask.
The only mask event (separate sessions) that shows in my graphs is for a nap ( a very separate session).
I'll have some work to undesrstand what is wrong with my stats.

I suppose it is possible that Resscan displays S8 data differently than S9 data. There is an XML file that controls Resscan and has all kinds of parameters in it for different machines. One time a short while ago when I graphed some VPAP data for a member the graph displays changed to fit that machine's characteristics.
