2 Questions!

Post by joslin » Thu Mar 01, 2012 12:32 am

Hi friends! I have 2 questions.

1. I have been feeling pretty crappy. (extreme fatigue, buzzing in head, depression). Thinking of getting retested, to see what all is going on. Curious about my O2 levels, etc. My first and only sleep test was 1.5 years ago and my AHI was "extremely high".

2. What is the optimal/average AHI episodes level for most of us? I now average 2 - 8 per hour.

Thanks, guys!

Are you on Cpap? Those numbers might be ok (the lower ones) if you were, but if not, then you'd probably be considered not to need it at all... but as you're feeling bad, you should have a new study done...

You could also get a recording oximeter to test your 02 levels overnight as many of us do, but one thing I would not do is take a poll of whoever incidentally answers your note here to get an average # of episodes as it won't tell you zip about yourself no matter how good or bad we might be... anything under 5 (with cpap) is considered to be good, but in fact I think most of us feel best under 2.

8 is on the high side. Are you using the machine 100% of sleep time, including naps? How are your leaks? Is there anything you can associate with the high AHI, such as a few drinks before bed, a big meal before bed, or exercising too close to bed?
How long have you been feeling this way?
If you would fill in your machine profile (start from the control panel) and let us know your prescription, perhaps we could be of more help. Sorry to pepper you with questions, but we don't have enough information to go on to help you.
A visit to the sleep doc to have your data examined or to be retested may be in order.
An AHI of 2 is great- if a couple of eights slip in now and then I would look toward getting a thorough physical to rule out other reasons for your problems.
