solution to dry eyes from bipap

Post by elbo » Sun Mar 05, 2006 8:20 pm

Hi:
I have been using a respironics bipap machine for a short time with comfort curve nasal pillows which I find comfortable. However, I have had problems with dry eyes in the morning. I have started using patches on both eyes at nighttime which prevents the problem but I dont like waking up pulling the patches off and having residue of the adhesive around my eyes. Have others experienced this problem and can someone suggest a solution. Thank you.

Don't bother with artificial tears-they dry too fast. There is an opthalmic lubricant that is available without an RX-comes in a little tube-just gently pull your lower lid down and out a little and squeeze a line along the edge of the lid.

If you're getting dry eyes from your Comfort Curve I would think it is because your mask is leaking air into your eyes (in addition to not getting the full benefit of your treatment).
If you could solve that problem, even if it means getting a different mask, you'd probably not need any moisturizer.

elbo,
You might try a Ladies Sleep Mask (don't know your gender). I wear one everynight, helps me alot. You can find them with bath items (bubble bath, loofahs, ect) at any store. May have to modify them, but they work. I must say I look ridiculous at bedtime with my eye mask, mouth tape and my face mask, but it all works!!!! Good Luck.
