I just finished my first week on CPAP and although I am breathing better than I was, I discovered there are several things about my mask that I don't like and I would like to try a new one. My DME made it sound like that was a really simple thing to do whenever I wanted and they would be HAPPY to help me with any problems I had.
So, I gave her a call first thing this morning (8 am) to ask if I could try a nasal pillow and also explained all the problems I was having with my current mask (lots of leaks, blasts of air drying my eyes out really badly, chapping on my face, the forehead piece rubbing against the bridge of my nose, waking up with big dents and strap marks on my cheeks even though I've watched the fitting videos several times - etc, etc.) Her reply was that she "would see" when someone could call me to schedule a new fitting appointment for me. The place is literally within 2 minutes of my house. How hard can this be? Anyway, no one called me back all day - and now it is a weekend, so I probably won't hear anything back until sometime Monday and THEN have to still schedule an appointment for who-knows-when.
Is this typical?? Is this what I should expect whenever I have a problem?
How long does it usually take to try a new mask?

All DMEs are different but so far most of them in my area are a pain and the people seem mentally challenged. Normally no, its not to big a deal if your just starting out but if your on medicare/medicaid like me or your insurance is picky you might have to wait a few months. I have to wait 3 months for a chance to change masks now. But if your new and just started they tend to give you a little more time. They will most likely calling after the weekend if you dont wish to wait walk in.

Re: How long does it usually take to try a new mask?
Thanks for the replies. I'd really rather not have to wait until Monday to even get an appointment so I think I will try walking in. What do I need to take with me? Do I need to take my whole setup or just the old mask?

I would take in the old mask.
