Ordering on-line is:
Less Expensive
Less Hassle
Faster Service
If you want insurance to pay for everything your pretty much restricted in using their contract DME. But if it is coming out of your pocket by all means order on-line, over the years best prices I've found on needed supplies is from cpap.com. I've had to exhange machines and it was all no hassle.

I think it all depends on how much you actually have to pay yourself. If you have to pay a large percentage, then buy it yourself - if it's all covered, then let them pay! But to get what you want, then research hear and buy from cpap.com. For what it's worth, I would advise you to get an APAP not a CPAP - even if you don't like APAP, at least you have the option as APAP does CPAP as well as APAP while CPAP only does CPAP and nothing else.
Also, the prices that dme's seem to charge look outrageous to me! You could end up paying a percentage with the dme and still pay more than buying direct here at cpap.com!
