ARRRGGGG Watch out for Paypal fees from SecondWind.com

Post by justbreathe » Wed Feb 01, 2012 11:54 am

ARRRGGGGG!!!! I guess I am just feeling ripped off.

I had a S9 Elite with Humidifier with 300 hours that I sold to Second Wind CPAP. I wanted to sell it and thought why not use Second Wind. I sent them the information and he said they are offering 260.00 for this machine with low hours. Though I felt this was low because they resell them for 525.00 - 599.00. I said I would accept $260.00 and they pay the shipping. They send a UPS label and I sent my S9 to them

I requested to receive my money via pay pal. I expected to have $260.00 in my paypal account. I was shocked to find a $7.84 fee from paypal because second wind sent it as a purchase rather than money owed. The only reason for doing this is to protect yourself with paypal buyer protection. I am not a in the business of selling cpaps and they already had my cpap I sent to them. Had I known this I would have requested a check.

I just fell ripped off by paypal and second wind. I called second wind this morning. I guess they are too busy making money to mess with me.

Next time I will not use Second Wind or recommend them. NOT HASSLE FREE

I should have sold it on craigslist rather than Second Wind. Another lesson learned perhaps someone here will not repeat my mistakes.

ARRRGGGG!

What exactly are you expecting of second wind now? Its sounds like they did everything you intially requested and agreed upon.

Paypal does charge fees for some transactions and you got buyer protection from paypal, which is a business.

Hope you like your new BiPap

I agree with Uncle-Bob...

You're angry at a a paypal fee that you should have expected. The only way to avoid fees is to list a payment as a gift.

You should have asked for a check. Secondwind is a small company that provides a useful service to the CPAP community. I sold a machine to them...received full payment by check in a timely manner and was very happy with the deal.

I did not get buyer protection and it was not necessary for this transaction. Buyer protection is to protect the buyer incase the seller does not ship the product or it is broken they are protected and get their money back. Had they sent the money first before I sent the CPAP I would have expected some fee for paypal service. I already sent the cpap and they were happy with it. All that was left is them to pay me. I trusted them.

Anyway after posting on here I got a call within a few minutes and Second Wind is going to cover the fee. I am sure this is not the first time they have heard this complaint and should tell people up front that there are fees associated with them sending money via paypal. I have been using paypal for as long as they have been around. I have never payed fees. I do not run a business and did not consider this a selling transaction through paypal or online selling site like ebay or auction site.

Believe it or not after all the time I have spent on here I felt that Second Wind was a friend and not outside the realm of them sending money that way. I know now that my feelings were one sided.

I feel better to have vented and glad to know the fees are covered. 8-D

I take back the bad things I thought about Second Wind. Even if the transaction was not HASSLE FREE it was fair.

From my limited experience, secondwind is a honest seller and provides good service. Equally, paypal is a great way to transfer money; it's a great service but there is a fee charged!

Agreed. I just ordered my new PRS1 from them and spoke with Mark. They agreed to make an effort to accommodate my request for a specific firmware number if possible and shipped the next business day after I ordered on the weekend. So far I've been nothing but impressed.

I feel the original poster's pain over PayPal fees, but I don't see this as an issue with Secondwind....

It is an issue with Secondwind. The fees charged by paypal are because Secondwind sends money as a payment to a business rather than as a money transfer like a check between two people. I was not aware that there was a fee and was surprised.

If Secondwind wishes to be the best they can be then informing their clients about all fees is good business.

If I bought a couch with delivery included in the price. I would be surprised to find the delivery company charges an additional fee to take it in the house. Had the store told me up front about all the fees I would not be surprised or frustrated. I would have agreed or made other arrangements.

I hope Secondwind will inform future clients about all fees associated with the transaction.

Ahhhhhh, but if the couch is delivered by a commercial trucking company, and not a store owned truck and crew, there will be a fee! Trucking company charges include unloading off of the truck onto a dock or the sidewalk, or wherever, just outside of the truck. Often, if you don't have a dock there is an additional fee to unload it, unless you have the equipment to do so yourself.

Service transactions don't come free, as you found out. I believe PayPal always charges the receiver of the money, just like credit card companies charge the merchant every time you buy something with a credit card. If you've always before used them to pay someone, that's why you haven't seen a charge from them. You did not get buyer protection, but I would say you did get seller protection. By using PayPal you avoided the possibility and hassle you would have had had you received a bum check.

I agree though, it would be in Secondwind's better interest to make the seller aware of the fee ahead of time.

This is a worthwhile topic and subject line. Thanks for increasing our awareness of such fees.

Second Wind is simply an incredible, caring small company that has always kept its word to me. Not only are they friendly & reliable, they are invaluable to those of us with sleep apnea that don't have insurance. I'm not surprised at all that they, number 1, called you back, then, number 2 went to lengths to make things right for you even though the PayPal charge was none of their fault.

I was not aware that you could receive payments through PayPal without incurring fees. I thought they always took their percentage as a cost of transferring the money. I would be surprised if PayPal did anything for free.

I believe that if you label a cash transfer as a "gift" that they waive the fee. Obviously a business could not get away with that.

Secondwind offers a check payment which costs nothing.

Then, I assume Paypal is not a charity?
