I really am very lucky and I have minimal to none issues with my sinuses. Certainly no drainage to speak of. I do like a lot of humidity and things are hugely worse when I try lower settings.
Though the "tickle cough" seems to pretty much have disappeared since I started using the heated hose which allows me to pretty much max out the humidifier setting in Classic mode no less. Lots of water...

I hadn't really thought much about it till you brought up humidity. When I had it ..it was pretty much one of those dry "feather tickling" coughs. Rarely had it during the day. Might have it more when mowing the yard in the summer when things are really dry and I end up breathing a lot of dust kicked up by the mower.

The PR S1 machines have 2 modes of humidification. The default setting is the new fancy method which adjusts the humidity base on ambient room humidity. I found it uses much less water and I needed it to be set to 5 to be comfortable. The Classic mode is the old fashioned ..heat only way of adding moisture. It uses a lot more water. Using my heated hose in Classic Mode on a setting of 5...my nasal mucosa are happy campers..I don't have rain out...and that dry tickly cough is much, much less a visitor.

So perhaps my tickly cough was related to a drier environment for the cilia in the airway.

I had already talked about the ASV machine and also the possibility that a simple bilevel machine might be enough to alleviate his potential central issues in another thread with the OP. So I saw no need to go into great detail about the "other" machine. So the "other" might not be the ASV...it might be a simple bilevel machine. Not everyone with a few central issues ends up on ASV. I use one of the "other" machines...a simple bilevel machine and OMG I love it. I have no central issues at all. I use it because it finally gave me the "miracle" which eluded me for 2 1/2 years.

We are all so different. The respiratory therapist told to set it on 2 or 3 and I did. Now, it is on 4 of 5. Find I get the tickle cough at 5 cause then my sinuses drain so badly. But to me, that doesn't seem that warm. Maybe I'll change my mind whent he weather warms although it isn't exactly all that frigid here in Mississippi.

Kairosgrammy wrote:You know that tickle cough is probaly caused by sinus drainage. I am finding that if I set humidfier all the way up, I get the tickle cough and if I set it down a notch, I do okay. I also keep hall's cough drops around. Why I've never choked on one in my sleep, I don't know.
Pugsy wrote:Sometimes I have nights where I have that frequent "tickle cough". Don't know why. No illness, no real congestion...just a lot of wake ups when I have a frequent dry cough. I see a lot more clear airway events on those nights. I already know that I woke up often to cough and I would assume that these are "awake" events. So if you have a restless night...lots of coughing or whatever...it is also very likely that the machine is scoring some events that are really "awake" false events. They can be open or closed airway.

So when we are ill we can't really rely on the data because the machine doesn't know if you are awake or asleep and it can mistake a cough for something else.
I'm going to try to raise the humidity. I went from 1 to 2 already. It's really a warm and muggy feel at 3. But that may also be good for the Lungs. I also used to keep a cough drop in my mouth before the xPAP came into my life. I never choked on one either.

Thanks for all of the advise!
