RIP Barney Fife

Post by LilBuckaroo » Sat Feb 25, 2006 7:42 pm

As you may or may not know, Don Knotts, aka Barney Fife passed on Friday at age 81. There will never be another "Barn"

I still liked him even in the reruns. Andy Griffith credited much of the show's success to Don.

The great ones have to go at one time or an another.

Also, he was The Incredible Mr. Limpit (amongst other characters we grew to know and love). Yes, RIP, Don Knotts. He was a part of a lot of our childhoods. I know he was a part of mine.

Always will remain one of my favorites. That was the good ole days! Everything was left to the imagination and yet they still managed to produce great shows. What happened?

Lori and Snoozie,

They were the "good old days". Now, I think we are too "technical" for anything like that.

I may be telling my age but, I can remember B&W television on a 9" television and we were happy to have it. But, those days are only in our memories.

And yes, "Happy trails to you" means something special to me. Because I remember Roy Rogers and Dale Evans among others on Saturday mornings.

Harold,

Yes, I am dating myself, too, but I remember the days where we used a "rabbit ears" antenna and had to take turns changing the channels since there was no such thing as a remote yet. And the only channels you could get without too much static were 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11 and sometimes 13.

Lori,

I'm not ashamed on my age! I was born in 1947. Lived in a small town about 30 miles north of Pittsburgh, PA named Mars, PA. And "those were the days my friend"!

Harold,

I am not one to hide my age, either. 1957 here. I feel that every year I have another birthday is an indication of the gift of one more year with the people I love that I've been given. When you think of how many unfortunate people don't get to make it to the age you are, then you realize that age is not anything to be ashamed of. It is a blessing.

Marie here, not a guest!

Born in 1944. My small home town in Louisiana was Breaux Bridge, the Crawfish Capital of the world.
We didn't have a television set until 1956.

Barney Fife is still the funniest guy on tv today. The Andy Griffith show beats all of the other shows on now.

Happy Mardi Gras to everyone out there.

It's good to know that there are so many old-time TV fans here. They don't make them like they used to, do they? I would be surprised if TV Land doesn't do one of their marathons honoring "Barn". They do show it every night though.

Hi All!
I was born in 1963 and I fondly remember Don Knotts! I will miss his fabulous sense of humor. My favorite movie was the Incredible Mr. Limpt.

Marie - Breaux Bridge, LA is my grandfathers home town. You will laugh... our last name is Guidry, which for all of you living outside of LA, thats like having the last name of Smith.

RIP Barney.

I hope so. Black & white not the color series. I thought Don was his best then. After he left the Andy Griffith show . I lost interest. Don was my favorite,he made that show.

Lori,

My (older ) brother in-law who was also born in 1957, just became a father for the first time. He is as healthy as a 20 year old, but now that he's a Dad, he doesn't act like one... if you know what I mean. Age (and maturity) has it's benefits.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Ok, I'll give my age away also. Born in 1953,and grew up in a small coal mining town. We only had 2 channels - 7 and 9, and we were thrilled with that on our old B&W tv that had tubes in it. And, we only had 1 tv, not 3 or 4. And... those were the days where parents still ruled. We watched whatever they wanted. After the chores were done...And no whining about it. Andy, Barney, Lucy, and Ed Sullivan on Sunday nights. Mom and Dad watching Lawrence Welk. I remember the first time Charlie Brown was on. What a thrill! OK, enough now, I could go on and on.

Snoozie:

Lawrence Welk and the Lennon Sisters. And a one and a two...the bubbles would rise and fall!

I remember watching the Beatles perform for the first time on Ed Sullivan, not to mention the Rolling Stones and Topo Gigio, or however you spelled the mouse's name. Those were the days!

Wading:

Congratulations to your brother-in-law. I'll bet he'll be a great dad since he now has patience and knows what is and isn't important, unlike being in your twenties when you have kids and they throw your world for a loop by changing it so drastically while you're still a kid yourself.
