I am a junkie
I am a junkie
Hi my name is Shirley and I have become a mask junkie!!
Help. Is there a cure for my problem? Hopefully when I find the 'ideal' mask for me I'll quit this habit!!
I now own 4 masks and have only been on cpap since Dec 20/05. I scour the net looking for deals! When will it stop. Please help me. Are there others out there with the same addiction as me?

Hello, I'm RobertinTX and I'm a CPAP junkie.
I've been on CPAP so long I can't remember sleeping without one.
And I'm affraid of being without one so I own three.
My nasal mask is so old I keep refurbishing it.
So, just relax, enjoy, it's OK to be a junkie.

The worst ones are those they use in the hosp.. I've got two of those but they are so crappy they are the "last resort"...
I just ordered two and new hose....So how many does that make ???
I won't say.......~EG~

Sorry, but 4 is only a warmup quantity. Just getting your toe wet before qualifying for true interface junkie status.
I won't say how many I have, but its a fair collection.
I slowed down recently though and pretty well settled into rotating between an Activa large and a Swift large. Both are good but Neither is perfect of course, but I can put up with either of their weaknesses for one night at least.
But I am definitely keeping my radar up for what might be MY Holy Grail of an interface, which of course would not be everyone's. The nice thing about getting a half dozen....or so, interfaces, is you get a better idea of some things that work and somethings that don't for you, and can read other people's reviews in that light, to hopefully narrow the search down a bit.
Which is why its so important for as many people to write THEIR experiences, good or bad, with interfaces in the forum.
And who knows, that Holy Grail might be sitting as a prototype on some engineer's desk right now.
Hey, I can dream can't I? (At least I can now that I am on CPAP)

Actually, I am consciously resisting the Aura.rested gal wrote:( psssst... snorkypie... "aura" )
and hey its not nice to prod someone with temptations of their addiction.
I just don't think the Aura is a good gamble for me, based on the type of issues I have heard with this interface in light of my past experience and matching up myself to those that have given reviews.
I am not saying that it would for sure not work for me, and it seems to be a good solution for a number of people, but its not enough of a sure thing to gamble another $100plus on it and have my wife come unglued over stuffing yet another interface in our limited storage space we have in our small house. I already have to put up with a lot of flack from her over the stash I already have.
Of course some of you may remember I went a long long time before I tried the Activa, which is now pretty much my favorite interface, based on leakage and therapy results and low noise and MOST comfort issues....if it weren't for that itchy nose thing, eventual sore upper gums......

I guess I'm not quite a junkie yet, but couldn't wait until insurance kicked in for another one - and that is only a month away. Had to have it now! So I guess I am getting there.
Started out with the crappy Comfort Classic that DME provided. Then Swift that DME again provided after complaining about 1st one. It was OK at first, but now can't stand the thing on my face. Hate the straps (and yes, have tried everything). If I bulk it up to prevent marks, then I am sleeping on lumps. Feels too confining.
Next ordered on a whim a Flexi-fit 407 - not much better than the comfort classic, plus AHI is way higher.
Next the Aura, which is my current favorite, but just couldn't sit still unless I tried the Breeze. Haven't gotten it yet, but it will be coming. Trying this one because it looks like less on top of the head.
Won't try anything else until they come out with something new. Well, maybe the Activa, and yes, the heated hose is definitely on my list.
Does the quest for the perfect mask ever end?

I too, after only four months of therapy, have become a mask junkie. At first it was the Comfort Classic....could have taped a plastic tea cup to my face for all the good it did me. Next, was the Ultra Mirage FF....Resmed, thy name is freedom. Freedom to breathe through my nose, sleep on my side and awake refreshed and forgetting, at times, I am even wearing a mask! But my interface wanderlust led me to the internet, where I became addicted to downloading pictures of other masks, and reading reviews that always seemed to end in yet another purchase. First came the Respironics ComfortFull and subsequent FFFS(Full-Face Fart Sounds) to the utter dismay of my bed partner and fear of my two cats. This gave way to the Comfort Curve and my love afair with its beautiful color and beautiful design, only to suffer the loss of being able to sleep on my side. Finally, the Aura/Headrest came to my aid and allowed me the experience of sleeping on my side, though the Darth Vader Effect has been the cause of a falling out in my affection for the Aura. Sheepishly, I returned, hose in hand, to gain the former affections of my put-away Ultra Mirage. Its silicone caresses have assured me of my full-face homecoming. Oh yes, I do look around still and wonder about a new interface; but I will never abandon my one true love: Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask.

I'm No Junkie!
OK, I've been at this xPAP thing for two months and have only had three masks. My Ultra Mirage FF mask, which I started with, works just fine so long as I don't try to raise the pressure above 4 cm. I guess I've basically abandoned that mask. Maybe the next time I get a cold though . . ., Even so, I liked it well enough that I got an Ultra Mirage nasal mask and have been using it for the past couple of weeks and it gets the job done, just so long as I keep my mouth closed. Then there's the Swift nasal pillows interface which I tried for a few hours the first night I had it. I forget exactly why I haven't used it since. For some reason it was peculiar enough that I couldn't sleep at all with it and at that point I switched to the Ultra Mirage and haven't given the Swift much thought since, except to defer further experimenting with to a later date . . .
See, I'm no junkie. It's all perfectly justifiable.
It's a good thing, no one's brought up the subject of machines yet, because in two months I've acquired two already and can't wait to get more . . .
Regards,
Bill
