CPAP NEWBIE Mask Help
CPAP NEWBIE Mask Help
So sorry....trying to add my equipment to profile.....I had just posted a question as "Josiebluecat" but now can only get on as "josieblue". My initial question was about trouble with my mask causing redness and swollen/red eyes. They are going to fit me for a new mask that does not have the forehead piece. Has anyone tried this with succes? Just trying to find some encouraging stories along the way. Also tired legs have been an issue with the sleep apnea and hoping someone else may have also had this issue which cleared once the CPAP therapy kicked in. Legs are often ache so much that I can hardly get out of the chair....or off the couch more likley. Added my equipment to profile...hoping it will show up now and thank you everyone for your patience.
Re: CPAP NEWBIE Mask Help
I see your equipment now. I think you have the wrong humidifier in your choice but that is a small thing.
In the equipment list the humidifier that works with the PR System One machines is shown as PR System One Heated Humidifier like I have in my profile because I use it myself.
Your machine choice does offer full data and there is easily obtained (and used) software available for it.
Check out my signature line for your options as well as links to using SleepyHead (which is my preference).
Do you have the clinical/provider manual for the PR System One Auto CPAP with AFlex? We commonly just call it the PR S1 APAP. The provider manual has some terminology definitions that will help with understanding your machine and the reports. If you don't have it send me a private message and I can't get it for you.
I don't use a full face mask so I am not much help beyond the general comments I already made but others here might have some specific ideas.
If the mask continues to be troublesome then get with your DME and swap it out for something else to try.
Finding the right mask in regards to comfort and fit is the hardest part of all this cpap thing. No one should have stick with a mask that causes pain or wounds to the face because there are so many options out there.
Can you normally breathe through your nose just fine during the day or do you have some physical problems to the nose (bad allergies, nasal congestion, etc) that makes you breathe through your mouth even during the day? Many of us thought we were mouth breathers when in fact the mouth breathing was our gasping for air due to apneas and once the apneas weren't a problem we no longer did the mouth breathing thing at night.
So some people think that they have to use a full face mask when they might do well with a nasal interface mask. Just a thought... Now if you are a mouth breather by necessity during the day..then yes, most likely full face mask is your best option. I will tell you that masks like the one I use are super easy to seal and super comfortable to use.

Re: CPAP NEWBIE Mask Help
Now I can see your mask type -
I have never tried the Respironics masks, except in the DME's office and I did not care for them. I have the Mirage Quattro maskhttps://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... dgear.html
This is what I like best about this mask -
It has a microfit dial on the forehead pad to allow to dial in the exact amount of pressure to maintain a good seal
It used a silicone seal that inflates with pressure to seal. It almost "floats" on your face - I tried a gel mask and I had to really tighten it down to get a good seal.
When they bring out some other full face masks to try to your house I would recommend trying:
Mirage Quattro Full Face https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... dgear.html
Quattro FX for Her https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... -mask.html
There are some other full face masks out there, but these are the two I use. I liked the Mirage Quattro better that the Quattro FX as I never could get the FX to seal on my nose.
Also for pressure on the nose you could also have them bring you out a Gecko pad that might help. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/Gecko-Nasal-Pad.html
