I have been frustrated with trying to get various software programs to work on my computers so that I can read my data daily to see if my therapy is working or not. Consequently, I am going to purchase a S9 Autoset w/humifier & heated hose because it appears I can view all the data a need right on the dial!
My husband is also due for a new machine next month (bi-pap). If he wants to be able to have the feature of automatic adjusting pressures (both our weights cycle up and down enough to justify an automatic vs a set pressure) as well as his data on the bi-pap screen, he should order a S9 VPAP auto? I spent time on RESMED's website today and I don't believe he needs the S9 VPAP Adapt.

S9 VPAP Auto?
Daily Machine: ResMed AirSense 10 Autoset w/Heated Humidifier
Re: S9 VPAP Auto?
The S9 VPAP S and the S9 VPAP Auto are the simultaneous mode S9 bi-level machines. The difference is that the S9 Auto will adjust pressure. On the S9 VPAP Auto you set the min epap, max ipap and the pressure support (difference between epap and ipap). The machine then ups both epap and ipap in response to flow limitations and events. If I switch my S9 VPAP Auto to S mode, it works like the S9 VPAP S and I just set epap and ipap.

Re: S9 VPAP Auto?
Ok, so I understand that the S9 VPAP S Model is a straight Bi-Level machine, not an automatic one that adjusts the inhale/exhale pressures. It is not clear on the ResMed site; at least to me. I don't think he needs an Adapt machine.

They don't make it real clear but you have it right. Unless he has special needs he won't need the Adapt.Guest wrote:Ok, so I understand that the S9 VPAP S Model is a straight Bi-Level machine, not an automatic one that adjusts the inhale/exhale pressures. The ResMed S9 VPAP Auto....has 3 modes of operation...the auto bilevel mode, the "S" mode which is a fixed bilevel mode (like the VPAP S model) and it also offers plain ordinary cpap mode with a single fixed pressure. With some fiddling with the settings in Auto mode you can also make it work like a regular APAP.
Pretty cool machine. I just recently had the chance to try it and it is quite nice.

Re: S9 VPAP Auto?
To clarify what's what in the S9 line:
The following are CPAP/APAP machines; all that is needed to get one of these is a prescription for a CPAP and a cooperative DME (for machines other than the Escap)
On a PR BiPAP we have:
The following are CPAP/APAP machines; all that is needed to get one of these is a prescription for a CPAP and a cooperative DME (for machines other than the Escap)
- S9 Escape ---- bottom of the line straight CPAP; records nothing but efficacy data.
- S9 Elite ---- straight CPAP that records full efficacy data
- S9 Escape Auto --- bottom of the line APAP; records compliance data and AHI that is not broken down and does NOT record leak data
- S9 AutoSet --- top of the line APAP that records full efficacy data
- S9 AutoSet for Her --- Pink version of the S9 AutoSet
- S9 VPAP S --- fixed pressure bi-level; this is the machine that is equivalent to the PR System One BiPAP; records full efficacy data
- S9 VPAP Auto --- an auto adjusting bi-level; this is the machine that is equivalent to the PR System One BiPAP Auto; records full efficacy data. Please note that the S9 VPAP Auto's auto algorithm does differ significantly from the PR BiPAP Auto algorithm (on both the M-series BiPAP and the System One BiPAP).
- S9 VPAP Adapt
On a PR BiPAP we have:
- 2 <= IPAP - EPAP <= PS all night long and IPAP and EPAP vary independently of each other when 2 < IPAP - EPAP < PS
Only IPAP increases for flow limitations, RERAs, and hypopneas
Only EPAP increases for snoring and OAs

Re: S9 VPAP Auto?
Please if anybody knows this answer. I have the res med VPAP S S9...My Rx shows a rate of 10. I can set the inspiratory and the expiratory pressure with no problem.. Just the rate , I don't see any option....Is there a rate option ? Thank you
