Noise from Air Intake

Post by scooter133 » Mon Jan 02, 2012 2:22 pm

I have a REMstar Plus M Series 200M, BiPAP unit. The Air Intake port is making noise when I inhale. I have a white filter jobbie in there first, then a gray foam thing on the outside.

I put the unit in a Drawer, though open enough for the hose, though its still pretty audible.

I know the machine is an older unit, though I cannot get a new unit form DME will this summer. Is there a better Filter I can get or something else I can do to decrease the noise that its making?

Thanks,
Scott<-

I had a noisy machine once. I put an upside down styrofoam box over it with cutouts for the hose and intake. It helped a lot. Actually, I still use that machine and it either got quieter or I got used to the noise because I only had to use that box for a week or two.

I found my m series noisy when I used the flex feature for inhale, exhale. I also use a hard foam 1 1/2 inch pad underneath with a towel on top of the pad and that helps too. I must admit though, the m series is noisier than my F&P 604. When I used my F&P my daughter came into my room early one morning to see if I was actually breathing or not.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Is the noise from the air intake on the machine or from the mask?

My wife's machine started to make a noise on inhalation as well. I changed the white pollen filter and grey filter and that seemed to quiet it right down. Now we both have PRS1 machines, but you might start checking the simple things first.

If your model uses a Humidifier Flapper Valve check that. Make sure it's seated all the way in. Anytime I get noises from my machine it's always that flapper valve. In fact the DME gave me an extra one with my machine saying they screw up all the time.

If noise bothers you, find a louder noise that does not bother you. For years I slept with a T.V. going but that seemed to wake me when the ads came on blearing. Some people run a motor, (like a fan ect), I made a recording of nature sounds and storms that rocks me to sleep, whatever floats your boat. All you need to do is get a pleasant ound that overcomes the bad sound. Jim

Take the filters out and see if the noise goes away.

You don't want to use the machine without filters, but it might give you a clue about how to fix the noise.

I noticed when my fine filter needs changing the machine is noisier on inhale. This has only happened when I forget to change the filter on the 1st of each month. I change the white fine filter and wash the grey filter monthly. However, I'm wondering if washing the grey filter once a week would help alleviate the noise - I'll give that try to see.

Thanks all for the replies. I have a REMstar Plus M Series 200M. I replaced the grey and white filters on the unit Monday. I have not used the unit in years, and Dr wanted me to Fire it up again. So Everything is new, filters, Mask and hose. The Humidifier is new too, though the machine made noise without it.

Its defiantly from the AirIntake port, you can hear the air rush in when the unit is pushing the Air to the Mask. Makes the same noise if I have Grey + White Filter, Grey, or just white. Its louder without the filters.

With the CFlex and exhaling out, the pressure drops and the noise goes away, when in inhale, then you hear it again.

So far I've been able to put it in a Drawer, close it to the Hose and cram a towel in the gap and its much better. Though unfortunately that drawer is in my Hotel room and not at home. Looks like I'll have to buy a Nightstand with a larger drawer... )-: No new machine till Summer. )-:
