How do you like the Mirage FX ?

Post by Physician » Thu Dec 15, 2011 1:36 am

In the past two years, after trying several nasal pillows, then the Respironics Comfort Classic, I changed to the ResMed Mirage FX several months ago.

What has been your positive and negative criticisms of this mask ?

I tried several nasal masks before deciding on the Mirage FX. I really like its low profile and comfort. No negatives so far.

I agree with Randy on the low profile, but it still was too much for my face and dealing with leaks with just too much. I switched to a nasal pillow, even though the RT told me I couldn't because I was a mouth breather and a deviated septum. I'm glad to say I proved her wrong and just love the nasal pillows. It just amazes me how little the so called medical experts actually know sometimes.

I was a little worried last night as I had some congestion and thought I might have to switch back to the FX, but after about 60 seconds on the pillows with humidity, my nasal passages cleared right up. Simply the best!!

John - are you referring to the Mirage Quattro full face mask? This OP is looking for feedback on the Mirage FX nasal mask.

Resmed doesn't make it easy having several different masks that have "Mirage" in the name and several others that have "FX" in the name...

No kidding... I almost said I have that mask too (the nasal one) but mine is the Swift FX and is not the nasal mask but nasal pillows. Good thing I had a good nights sleep last night or this would be even worse off of a post.

New here. Was scanning & found this topic.I was using the Quatro&had problem's with it.I switched to the Mirage Fx last week.I never tried the nasal the first time because of sleeping with mouth open. But,the provider said had nothing to loose by trying ,have a 90 day return policy. So far so good.Last night I was a little stuffy & had a harder time getting to sleep. It is alot better than the other.

Congestion is the hard part with a nasal mask. Lately I've been pretty good, but last night during the night I woke up with one nostril a bit blocked and the other one wasn't fully open, I struggled a bit to breathe. Got up, blew my nose, and went back to sleep after a bit. When I had a cold a month ago, I had to go back on full face mask for 5 days or so, but the last thing I felt like doing in the middle of the night was switching masks (as I have to change my machine settings if I use the full face mask).

Yes,the setting my machine was left at full face.I did change to nasal. Was wondering if there is any pressure difference from both setting's.

No, no pressure difference. You would see a difference in reported leak, that is all.

(When I referred to changing settings, I meant pressure settings, as I require more pressure w/full face mask. I wouldn't feel like going into Clinicians Menu to change settings while half asleep.)

I use the Resmed Mirage nasal mask. I like the extra adjustment it has for the nose area.Otherwise its much the same as the FX.

I started out with a Mirage Micro.
After 3 months, it was pushing my upper incisors out of line because I'm in between sizes for that model.
This is why I am reluctant to try the Mirage FX.

You are right - it comes in 2 sizes, Standard and Wide. I have a fairly large head and good-sized nose and I am a Standard. So I assume a Wide would be for someone with an extra large nose.

It is such a small, low profile mask that I don't even feel like I have a mask on when I'm wearing it. Of course, my other mask is a Mirage Quattro which is like having an alien on your face.
