Should I try the CPAP Machine without Seeing a Doctor?
Re: Should I try the CPAP Machine without Seeing a Doctor?
Thanks, Pugsy. Yes, my Devilbiss Auto IntelliPAP is just purchased. I do not know about 'online smart code thing' you have mentioned. Do I require to purchase it? Or, should I purchase the SmartLink Therapy Management Software? What would happen if I keep the default range of pressure, 4.0-20.0 cm, in my AUTO machine?

winna wrote:Hi, I m also one using cpap machine without a PSG. My OSA is because of the nasal anatomy, changed due to an affliction when I was only 7 years old. Today is the 3rd day, I have been using Devilbiss Intellipap Auto-adjust cpap. As of now, I have not got a satisfactory relief. Now I am contemplating to have SmartLink Therapy Management System. I am using 5.5-15 cm range. I do not like ramp. I can sleep with mask-on: compliance is not a problem. I only want to see whether the new machine is helping my condition any better than the previous straight cpap in which I used the pressure of 7cm. I am not, at all, overweight. Anybody out there with similar situation or anyone with suggestions?
You are in charge, but here is what I would do -winna wrote:Thanks, Pugsy. Yes, my Devilbiss Auto IntelliPAP is just purchased. I do not know about 'online smart code thing' you have mentioned. 1. Immediately change the pressure range to 7 - 10.
2. Get the software ASAP to see what is going on - it is the only way - everything else is guessing.
3. Use software to monitor daily and fine tune the settings to achieve an optimal therapy.
I am not saying 7 - 10 is a good range for you. It is just a starting point to be used until you have the software. You need the software to find the therapeutically effective settings.
Good luck and please ask more questions once you get the software.

Online smart code thing... explained here.. https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/devil ... tflex.htmlwinna wrote:Thanks, Pugsy. Yes, my Devilbiss Auto IntelliPAP is just purchased. "SmartCode lets you review your sleep performance without the need to purchase software. After you wake up, SmartCodes will appear on your machine's LCD screen. Type code into the CPAP.com SmartCode field and click submit. Type multiple codes if you would like to review multiple periods of time. Your options include 1, 7, 30 and 90 day periods as well as a cumulative usage code. To get different codes for each period, hit arrow over. Definitions are available at the bottom of each generated report. Be sure to consult your physician for assistance interpreting your report. "
If you don't know how to get the Smart code it should be in the clinical manual. Do you have that manual?
More details are available in the software and yes it is a purchase product to be able to get all the data and around $150. We have a forum member Emilia who uses this machine and really is much better explaining all the ins and outs. I have never used it so I am limited with what I can offer. If you will register here at the forum you can send her a PM and she can help you so much better than I can.
Here is her profile link and once registered you can send her a PM..she won't mind.

We have a forum member who is just now adding DeVilbiss to his newly created software.
SleepyHead...I don't know how much information is available yet. It is free though.

APAP range of 4 to 20....not normally advised. The starting point of 4 might be so low that the machine can't get to the pressure that is needed quickly enough but it would be a good starting point to try to figure out where it needs to be set to do a better job. Wide pressure changes can also disrupt some people's sleep...so a more narrow range would work better for those people.
Send Emilia a note...she knows this machine inside and out.
