Can't stand chipmunk feeling

Post by JHZR2 » Sun Dec 11, 2011 2:23 am

Typing this because I'm kept up by my cpap. Pressure =8. Have nice airflow through nose. Problem is, air coming through mouth section blows my cheeks out. I'm breathing through the nose, but mouth is slightly open to breathe out. Air forces cheeks open and out.

Quite annoying.

I'm too much of a mouth breather to nose only, but this stinks. I like the mask a lot, but not the chipmunk feeling.

Suggestion?

I use a chin strap to lessen the chipmunk cheeks. I adding a chin strap because my mouth and cheeks definitely FILL with air when I seal my mouth with tape to prevent any mouth breathing at all (using a nasal pillows mask.)

You might experiment with something homemade first (Ace bandage perhaps) to see if running anything vertically along your cheeks will interfere with the wider placement of your Liberty's mouth cushion.

May we respectfully inquire as to your prior mask history?

Without the crucial detailing that mask provenance provides, we feel that we are just guessing.

If you would be so kind, would you please list all the masks you have tried in the past?

Please list the manufacturer and the model.

Please tell us how long you tried each mask, and why each one failed for you.

In other words, please tell us how you arrived at your current destination:

JHZRZ....The key is your tongue....Try to keep it touching the roof of your mouth. That will stop the chipmunk cheeks. With time you may be able to train your tongue.

Well I'm VERY new to this. Thus experience is limited...

Went to my second SS, first had nasal only mask. I felt like as I relaxed, all the air just vented through my mouth, also felt like I couldn't breathe well. Tried two full face masks, one longer, one shorter for lack of better terms. Unfortunately I don't know the brands for any.

Went back for a fitting, and the mirage liberty was the first I tried, but compared to the other masks, I was sold.

There is nothing comfort or fit-wise that I can complain about on this mask. Compared to the others that I had on, it's tons better.

IMO it is the tongue issue, versus mask. But I dont have much info on the masks, unfortunately...

I know this may sound weird, but brushing my teeth and hard palate just before bed gives my tongue an extra nice spot to stick to,
a reminder, as it were. I also don't know when it happened, but I eventually went from chipmunk to no munk. --just a habit, I guess.
