Heated Humidier working or not?

Post by JOE248 » Sat Dec 10, 2011 5:01 pm

I have 2 units Respironics System 1 and Remstar Pro M series. I was using my M series and noticed this morning the water level got very low but still covered the metal plate inside the water chamber.

I was testing both machines and noticed the plate never got warm during the test.

Does anyone know if the plate gets warm to the touch righ away if you would remove the water chamber/ or does it takes longer?

I assuming both humidiers are not working?

Would a free standing heated humider help until I can replace my unit/

Thanks
Joe

I saw the title of your thread and knew you were talking about a Resprironics system.

Respironics System One humidifiers are pretty efficient at adjusting the humidity between comfort and avoiding rainout, but they don't heat up very much unless you are in a very dry area and they need to put out a LOT of humidity to make up for the dry relative humidity in the room. The plate doesn't always warm up and warms up very little most of the time.

People often think the humidifier isn't working, but it's usually working very well.

The M Series humidifier is heat only. No fancy humidifier sensors.
Turn your machine on for about 10 minutes with water tank in place with water in it. Then remove the plastic tank and immediately feel the bottom of the plastic tank. The heating element part of the humidifier may cycle a bit (so you might catch it when off cycle) but the plastic tank will retain enough heat for you to tell if it is heating or not.

The System One machines does use a lot less heat and it might be harder to "catch" it during the on cycle.
