Helo from Ohio

Post by SleepyZ » Sun Feb 19, 2006 10:55 am

Hi there,
I am from Ohio and was just diagnosed with severe OSA. I am in the waiting stage right now. Waiting for all the red tape to end so I can get my CPAP.

My question is, which machine is right for me? As you know there is an overwhelming number of machines to choose from.

They stopped me half way through the night and put the CPAP on me. I liked the nasal pillow type of mask. I'm pretty sure it was the Mirage one.

Any help you can give me is appreciated.

BTW, I was only on the CPAP for about 4.5 hrs and I actually felt ENERGIZED when I woke up!! I can't wait till I get my machine!!

Thanks,
Neil

Neil,

Do lots of reading on this site. Do lots of machine and mask comparisons on CPAP.COM.......the features and prices. Find out the coverages, limitations and restrictions of your insurance provider. DO NOT let the physicians or DMEs (Durable Medical Equipment providers) rush you into a decision. Whatever you get is what you will probably be using for some time to come, so choose wisely. Get the best that you can afford. Get a machine that has enhanced sleep data recording features that can be downloaded and monitored through computer software. Be sure to get the original prescription from your doctor......and don't let go of it. Also, check out BILLMYINSURANCE.COM.
If you can afford to do it, I would recommend buying online from CPAP.COM and then submitting an invoice to your insurance provider for reimbursement. It will save you and your insurance provider lots of money over using a local DME supplier.

Oh......did I mention to do lots of reading here?

Best wishes,

Den

Hi Sleepyz and welcome.

Here is a post with responses from a while back on this forum. It pretty much asks what you are asking.

You can search this forum (the search button is upper part of the screen).

Everything Wulfman wrote above is gospel. Check your insurance. You are the boss. Get the equipment you want. Don't take no for an answer.

Good Luck.

Hi Neil,

I am a former Buckeye myself. I transplanted to Wisconsin.

What part of Ohio are you from?
