PR System 1 ASV & same old DME story

Post by teknomom » Wed Dec 07, 2011 5:43 pm

Does anyone use the PR System One BiPap Auto SV Advanced?

The RT came to set me up today and tried to give me an older model. When I said I wanted the System One, she didn't know anything about it, hadn't heard of it. Here's what she told me:

1. This DME only uses the older model.
2. The Doctors aren't trained to write a Rx for the System One. That will be a month or longer.
3. I could start with the older model and PROBABLY get the newer model later when Respironics has trained the doctors.
4. She "thinks" the System One is only sold in Europe.
Sound familiar???????

I refused the machine. The RT is new to the company (local in Colorado), very nice, felt bad and said she'd try to get more information for me tomorrow. But, niceness does not make up for ignorance.

I called another DME who deals with the same group of doctors and was told that they (the DME) only use the System One. Btw, this was Roth Medical, a nationwide chain. Has anyone dealt with them?

One of them is lying! Surprise! Maybe both.

I called my NP's office and spoke to the triage nurse. She admitted that she didn't know one model from another and had no idea what my machine was. When she saw the Auto in the RX, she said that it would titrate me at home and I didn't have to worry about the Rx pressures. I asked to speak to someone who does know the machines and my NP is supposed to call me later. I've lost all confidence in this group, especially since my NP forgot to send in the Rx in the first place. I may get a second opinion.

In my previous thread I estimated that I might get my machine in early to mid December. Who knows when it will happen now?

Hi Teri, Roth Medical is my DME through the VA.

I'll tell you what the RT told me back in June.

They too gave me the older model, but I was not a member of cpaptalk then, so I had no clue.

After joining, I learned about the System 1. In July, a month after I got the machine I asked her about the System 1, she acted dumb and said she never heard about it. So, I figured, maybe it's not for sale yet.

So I went back online, found that it was for sale in many places, and when I talked to her a few days later, I started to bring up the System 1 again, and she said (like she knew what I was going to say), "Oh, you're right, I just found out there is such a thing as a System 1".

So, the same DME, Roth Medical who told me that she never heard of it, is now telling you that's all they sell.

So, I have no clue who's telling the truth.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

I have another RT from Roth coming out next week for my machines 6 month checkup.

I'm going to play dumb and bring it up again and see what they say.

Thanks Ken. The person I talk to at Roth is very helpful and full of information but how much is the truth?

They also want to use a modem to send my info to their office. Will that interfere with my ability to store info on an SD card and read it myself?

It shouldn't interfere. The modem may cover the SD slot in the back of the machine but others that have had to use the modem say it isn't hard to remove it and get to the SD slot.
