A Nice DME Story

Post by snoringshrink » Wed Dec 07, 2011 2:52 pm

When I first was diagnosed, I tried the GoLite for Men, Version 2 nasal pillow mask. It was comfortable, but the leaks were incredibly high. When I called my DME's respiratory therapist, she came to my office with a variety of different masks. We spent a good half hour trying different ones and, after determining that my nostrils were significantly different in size, finally settled on an Mirage Activa LT with headgear. As she left, she said to try it for a couple of weeks and if there were any problems at all, we'd just keep going through the process until we find one that works.

I mention this because there seem to be a number of physicians and DMEs who will treat OSA and other related conditions as cash cows, with minimal time spent helping patients (especially newbies like me). It's really nice to have an RT that recognizes the importance of getting it right for the patient.

Just wanted to share this positive experience.

My RT is the same way. He is also a hosehead. So he is very frank with patients and is always open to suggestions and tips to pass on to others.
