Resscan Graph Definitions

Post by red1 » Wed Dec 07, 2011 2:11 am

I've looked all over before posting this. I found a lot of talk on these individual graphs, but not able to find exactly what these individual graphs represent. I understand most of them. These ones I'm a little unsure of.

What exactly is "Flow Chart". Does this have to do with breaths per minute? If it does, I would have about 22 per minute while sleeping. Up & down with the wave, without a pause in between.

"Minute Ventilation"

"Flow Limitation" and what are those 3 odd looking symbols at the left of this graph. The 3 various shapes. Arrow shaped curve, another not so uniform curve & another, flat across the top.

Thanks in advance

Flow chart is the actual rate, in liters per minute as calculated by the S9, that air is entering or leaving your lungs. Think about it for a minute. You are not moving air in, then you start to inhale, then you stop inhaling. For an instant no air is moving in or out. That is the part of the graph above the zero line. Then you start exhaling until it's all out, then you have zero air movement before you start the next inhale. That is the part of the graph below the zero line. You can count the peaks and get BPM, but it's easier to look at the respiratory rate graph. I don't think it shows by default. Do a search and you'll find some discussion what you have to do get it to show.

Minute ventilation is the total volume of air that you breath in one minute.

I'll let someone else discuss Flow Limitation. Others have studied it more than I have.

The 3 shapes in Flow limitation has to do with the individual breaths. If you zoom in really closely you can see which shape your breath looks like. It has been discussed here on the forum before but of course I didn't save it and can't remember where it was but someone had an example of each along with a better explanation than I have. I can't remember what each one points to. Sorry. If I have time later and no one points to a better explanation, I will try to sort through the forum search engine and find the post. I hate this search engine. It's like going into no man's land with a blindfold on.

Edit...examples of flow limitations
