non-heated humidifiers

Post by herefishy » Sat Feb 18, 2006 8:23 pm

Well, my cpap therapy is going great, now I need some advice about humidifiers. I want to camp out this summer on a solar system with inverter, but as I understand it, the heated humidifiers take too much power. Does anybody know of a passover humidifier or any other alternative that will keep me comfortable without heat?

I do like that name! Respironics makes a passover for Remstar that works well, any heated humidifier will help even without the heat on but the function is a little reduced I think.

I think the current Respironics model is called the Oasis.

Have one in my hand as I write. It is about 10" by 8' by 1.5 in high except where there is a raised bit that is 2.5 in total height.

This is very easy to open - 4 quick release clamps - one on each side.

Is not all all heavy.

Should do the trick nicely.

Cheers

I have an HC150. If I needed an unheated humidifier, I would just take the water tank with me and use it unheated. If you have a humidifier attached to your machine you could just turn it off and use it unheated.

and for a real sense of adventure, use that campfire or primus stove to heat up that humidifier.... haha.

Good point that it would be nice to have a "camping humidifier" that would give a BIT more than a "normal" cold pass humidifier but either solar charge by day, and/or just be more efficient in its transfer.

I've read good things on message boards about the DeVilbiss passover humidifier, if a person was going to go non-heated.

Thanks for the replies, I have the heated humidifier, but if I don't turn on the heat, I might as well not use it - I guess the non-heated ones have a bigger area for the air to pass over and pick up humidity?

herefishy,

I've been using my integrated (heated) humidifier on my Pro 2 in the UN-heated mode since day one (nine months ago) and I've NEVER woke up feeling dried out. For ME, it provides adequate humidified air while I sleep. And, I don't have to worry about "rainout".
With regard to power consumption, there have been previous discussions about that, some time ago. The conclusion was that the integrated humidifier on the REMstar models (in heated mode) actually uses very little power (over and above the normal consumption).

Best wishes,

Den

Thanks, wulfman, I guess I will just try running the HH off my inverter and see what happens.

Snoredog,

There seems to be something "familiar" with each of these posts you've got nailed down.

Which "user name" should he have?

yongheng1988, Bellamy Charles, or Charles Bellamy?

Is this "reliable" information, or could it be spoofed?

BTW, thanks for digging this stuff up......I've been observing..... Interesting.

Which site did you use for this information?
I've used ARIN, APNIC and RIPE tracking down IP numbers, but this looks like it came from some other source.
