How to keep mouth closed?

Post by Samaniego » Sat Dec 03, 2011 8:11 am

I can sleep on sides and stomach and the mouth does not open. On back after some minutes of sleeping it will open. Awakens me with dry mouth.

I bought Hybrid mask because the chin cup should keep mouth closed but it does not.

I also tried two other face masks with an expensive chin strap. The chin strap does not keep mouth closed and the strap interferes with mask. Wearing mask and strap both is too uncomfortable.

What good ways do you know to keep mouth in shut position? There must be a solution you find.

Yes, that is my favorite mask. The other two masks rub a sore into outer nose.

But open mouth causes very dry and makes apnea worse. I want to use this mask with closed mouth.

3M Blue Painter's tape, No.2080EL (Edge Lock) works great for me.

I find a 4 inch non-adhesive Ace bandage chin strap works better than some others.

Make a loop. Cut to length. Either attach it with safety pins or get some Velcro to attach the two ends. I find it works well if I use the Velcro "Hook" side and the bandage itself as the "hook" side.

It's comfortable, it breathes, and I find I can apply more closing force vs. other kinds of chin strap because it spreads the force over a larger area.

I get 4 straps per bandage for a few bucks. Discard and replace when they get yucky or stretched out.
