Going on a cruise in January

Thanks everyone. You are all correct. Holland offered to have a gallon there for us for $4. They said there is no problem bringing a gallon thru ship's security and since we are not flying I can just bring a jug with us in the car. I will call back and make sure they have outlet space for both of our machines and I will take extension cords. We have cruised before just not with CPAP. I know it's not for everyone but we have found no more enjoyable way to travel for us. Maybe we should look into a cpaptalk.com group cruise one year.

Due to the inclosed space on a ship, I have found that their HVAC system works well enough that I do not take my humidifier for the cruise. The main obstacle is the lack of electrical outlets close to the bed. I carry an extension cord with me. I also put it away every morning. I do not expect the room steward to care for my machine.

learned a tip from an airline worker the last time I flew and thought this thread would attract the people that could use the tip. Freeze your water. wrap it a thick layer of newspaper and they will let it through security. the ban on liquids is .. a ban on liquids. ice is not a liquid and also because it's frozen it's also not a threat. The people that work at airports bring in their own drinking water this way too. when I mentioned it to a security screener she said they all do it and they see lots of passengers doing it now too.

oh and the newspaper will keep it frozen for hours and hours.

Just back from 10 days on Holland America. A search of their web site for "cpap" yields a form for passengers with medical needs. It mentions cpap and has a place to check "I will need distilled water." We didn't bother to use the form, but took distilled water in two old labelless pop bottles (16-20 oz) that were thoroughly rinsed because they had carried tap water for our dog on many car trips. They were just in the suitcase, and raised no red flags. Do bring an extension cord. The only two outlets we found that were not in the bath room were both at the desk beyond the foot of the bed. As we were both packing kindle readers, the extra outlets on the cord came in handy. By the way, put your phone on airplane mode. There were rumors of phones that have done system updates while turned off and in the room's safe, expensive at shipboard rates.

Just a reminder, if you have an S9 and don't bring your humidifier make sure you bring the right hose. The hose that fits the humidifier won't fit the base unit.

I learned this here before getting my machine so I knew to ask for both. If I hadn't I would have just received the heated line and couldn't have left the humidifier home. That would be a pain to learn on a cruise.

And as a veteran if many cruises I always bring an extension cord, duct tape, ginger root and a razor blade. And it is much cheaper to book shore excursions off the ship.
